This study focuses on the necessity of reinterpreting the existential consciousness in Kim Gyu-dong’s poetry through a diasporic perspective. Although Kim Gyu-dong has often been evaluated within the frameworks of modernism and realism, this study begins with the premise that, at a deeper level, his poetic consciousness is unconsciously immersed in a romantic longing for an idealized past of exile and displacement. Accordingly, this research examines Kim Gyu-dong’s poetic worldview not through abstraction or ideology but through an existential recognition that manifests as a lyrical diaspora rooted in intuition and sensory perception. Kim’s diasporic life, marked by separation from his homeland and constant dislocation, inevitably involves dispersion, migration, settlement, and hybridity. Ironically, the unique subjectivity of the divided diaspora exposes itself to an existential predicament—one of ambiguous identity. As a poetic subject, Kim Gyu-dong attempts an avant-garde, experimental modernist leap to understand an impossible world. His diasporic poetic consciousness reveals an unstable subjectivity, bringing lyricism through the poetic self within a temporal and spatial void. This represents the fragmentation of identity experienced by those who underwent separation, such as Southward refugees during the Korean War, and also serves as a poetic projection of a drifting life. His partition diaspora literature, which records these experiences, emerges as an emotional aesthetic sublimation of directly and indirectly internalized realities. Furthermore, the lyrical subject that appears in diasporic literature often possesses an ambiguous identity in a world of transience. Given that lyrical diaspora literature arises from the suffering of war and displacement, it signifies the emergence of a new global literary aesthetic—what can be termed the K-Diaspora Aesthetic. The research methodology of this study investigates Kim Gyu-dong’s poems, focusing on how existential consciousness is embedded in his lyrical diaspora poetry. Chapter 2 first establishes the lyrical diasporic aesthetics by examining the poet’s identity and diasporic nature. Chapter 3 categorizes his poems chronologically, identifying his poetic persona as a refugee, a displaced person, and a settler. The study analyzes the evolution of his partition diaspora consciousness from the 1950s to the 1980s, covering his poetic journey from his first collection Butterfly and the Square to his fourth collection Pure Hope. By assimilating his lived historical realities into the diasporic experience, the study classifies the embedded lyricism in three layers —surface, deep, and multi-layered—analyzing three representative poems in each section.

본고는 김규동 시의 실존 의식을 디아스포라적 관점을 통해 재해석할 필요가 있다는 문제의식에서 논의되었다. 김규동을 모더니즘과 리얼리즘 경향의 시인 으로 평가하는데, 이에 앞서 그의 심층에는 이산이라는 낭만적 사조가 무의식적 으로 침잠해 있다는 것에서 출발한다. 이에 그의 시적 세계관을 추상이나 관념적인 것이 아닌 실존적 인식에서 직 관이나 감각을 통한 서정적 디아스포라적인 측면에서 규명했다. 김규동의 디아 스포라적 삶은 거주지와 고향 그리고 삶의 터전을 벗어난 상태에서 분산과 이주 그리고 정착과 혼종성을 겪기 마련이다. 이로써 분단 디아스포라가 가지는 주체의 고유성은 아이러니하게도 그 자체가 정체성의 모호성이라는 실존적인 한계 상황에 노출되어 있다. 이는 시적 주체로서 불가능한 세계를 이해하는 방 법으로서 아이러니하게도 실험적이고 전위적인 모더니즘적인 도약을 시도한다. 그의 디아스포라적 시 의식에서 발견되는 불안정한 주체는 있어야 할 것이 없는 시공간 속에서 시적 자아를 통해 서정성을 출현시키고 있다. 이는 이산을 경험한 월남인으로서 주체의 분열을 의미하는 것이며 부유하는 삶을 시적으로 투사시키는 작업이기도 하다. 이를 기록하는 그의 분단 디아스포라 문학은 직간 접적으로 이를 체득하는 가운데 정서적 미학으로 승화하는 데 발생한다. 또한 디아스포라적 문학에서 현시되는 서정적 주체는 부유하는 세계 속에서 모호한 정체성을 지닌다는 특징이 있다. 이런 서정적 디아스포라 문학은 전쟁을 경험하 고 이산이라는 불행한 고통 속에서 발현된다는 점에서 세계적으로 새로운 문예 사조를 형성하는 K-디아스포라 미학의 출현이 아닐 수 없다. 연구 방법으로 김규동 시편에서 ‘실존 의식’이 편철된 ‘서정적 디아스포라’적 인 시를 탐구했다. 선행적으로 2장에서는 시인의 정체성과 디아스포라 성격을 통해 서정적 디아스포라적 미학을 확보했으며, 3장에서는 그의 시를 주기별로 나누고 피난민으로, 실향민으로, 정착민으로 구획했다. 다만 김규동 시편의 분 단 디아스포라 의식이 시대별로 전개되는 양식이 확연하게 구분되는 1950년대 에서 1980년대에 이르기까지, 첫 시집 󰡔나비와 광장󰡕부터 네 번째 시집 󰡔깨끗 한 희망󰡕까지를 연구 범위로 한다. 이에서 그가 체험했던 시대적 상황을 디아스 포라 현실로 삼투시키면서 그 속에 내재 된 서정성을 표층적, 심층적, 다층적 등으로 분류해 각 절에서 각각 3편의 시를 통해 분석했다.
