This study aims to analyze the potential for utilizing regional dialects in Korean language education for foreigners, particularly within academic Korean language teaching contexts, and proposes specific strategies for their practical application. In alignment with the evolving motivations of international students studying Korean, this paper explores the feasibility of using regional dialects as effective tools to enhance language proficiency and learner motivation in academic Korean language education. Korean regional dialects are significant cultural components that inherently showcase Korea's cultural diversity, serving as excellent instruments for deepening the understanding of Korean culture. Through survey research, it was confirmed that although regional dialects remain unfamiliar to international students, learners naturally encounter dialects via Korean cultural content and media, viewing them as intriguing educational materials. The southeastern dialect, including the Busan dialect, is notably recognized among learners, reflecting its prominent representation in cultural content. Students perceive dialect learning as beneficial for expanding their comprehension and expressive capabilities in Korean, demonstrating a strong desire to deepen their understanding of Korea's cultural diversity and linguistic characteristics. The value of using regional dialects as supplementary tools in Korean language education is evident. Dialect learning enables students to experience authentic Korean pronunciation and regional nuances firsthand, providing opportunities for learners to engage more profoundly with Korean culture and locality. These findings highlight the potential of dialects beyond merely linguistic dimensions, opening possibilities for their utilization as essential cultural and contextual mediators within Korean language education.

본고는 외국인을 위한 한국어 교육, 특히 학문 목적 한국어 교육 현장 에서 지역 방언의 활용 가능성을 분석하고 그 구체적 활용 방안을 제안하 는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 본고는 유학생들의 한국어 학습 동기 변화에 발맞추어 대응하는 동시 에 한국어 능력 향상 및 동기 부여를 유도할 수 있는 효과적인 방안으로 학문 목적 한국어 교육 현장에서 지역 방언 활용의 가능성을 모색한다. 한국어 지역 방언은 그 자체로서 한국문화의 다양성을 보여줄 수 있는 주 요한 문화적 요소이자 한국문화를 더욱 깊이 이해하기 위한 훌륭한 도구가 될 수 있기 때문이다. 설문 조사를 통하여 확인한 결과, 유학생들에게 한국의 지역 방언은 여 전히 익숙하지 않은 영역이지만 한국의 문화콘텐츠와 매체를 통해 자연 스럽게 접하면서 흥미로운 학습 소재로 인식되고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 특히, 부산 방언을 포함한 동남 방언이 가장 강하게 인식되고 있으며, 이 는 문화콘텐츠에서 다루어지는 지역 방언의 성격과 밀접한 관련성을 가 진 것으로 보인다. 학습자들은 방언 학습이 한국어 이해와 표현의 폭을 넓히는 데 유익하다고 느끼고 있으며, 이를 통해 한국의 문화적 다양성과 언어적 특성을 더 깊이 이해하고자 하는 열망을 보이고 있다. 한국어 학습의 보조적 도구로서 지역 방언 활용의 가치는 분명하다. 지 역 방언 학습은 한국어의 다양한 현실 발음과 지역적 특성을 경험하게 하 고, 학습자들이 한국문화와 지역성을 더 깊이 체험할 수 있는 기회를 제 공한다. 이러한 결과는 방언을 단순히 언어적 측면에 국한하지 않고, 한국 어 교육에서 문화적, 맥락적 학습의 중요한 매개체로 활용할 수 있는 가능성을 열어준다.
