Since Seolseon(薛瑄)'s Reading Records(讀書錄) and Oh Jeong-geo(吳庭擧)'s Reading Records Anthology(讀書錄要語) were published and entered Joseon, Reading Records Anthology has been published several times. Noting that it was written without distinction from Reading Records, the characteristics of Reading Records Anthology were examined in this paper, and its significance was given in terms of education compared to Reading Records. As a result, Reading Records Anthology was able to take short sentences from Reading Records, delete and transform the sentences, and extract points containing specific words and actions. This was a characteristic compared to Reading Records in that abstract values, theories, ideas and history were often omitted and only direct mentions were made without figurative expressions or anecdotes. This points to the significance of Reading Records Anthology for education in the Joseon Dynasty. Reading Records Anthology can be said to be more significant in terms of education than Reading Records by Seolseon because it is used as an educational book for Donggung in the contest of the royal court, and scholars used it as their usual receipt.

본고는 설선의 『독서록』 비교해 『독서록요어』의 특징을 살피고 그 의의를 교육적 측면에서 부여하였다. 설선의 『독서록』과 오정거의 『독서록요어󰡕가 간행되어 조선에 들어온 이후, 조선에서 『독서록요어』가 특히 여러 차례 간행되고 많이 읽혔지만, 『독서록』과 구분 없이 쓰인 점에 주목한 것이다. 그 결과 내용 면으로는 『독서록요어』에서 『독서록』에 있던 추상적인 가치와 이론, 사상이나 역사는 빠진 채 구체적인 행동, 곧 언행과 처사에 관한 내용을 담고 있는 경우가 많은 점을 특징으로 추출할 수 있었다. 또 형식 면으로는 『독서록요어』가 『독서록』에서 짧은 문장을 취하고, 문장을 삭제 변형하기도 하면서, 비유적 표현이나 일화는 생략한 채 직접적 언급만 취한 경우가 많은 점도 특징적이었다. 이와 함께 조선 시대 교육 면에서 『독서록요어』의 의의를 부여하였다. 『독서록요어』는 조정의 경연에서 동궁을 위한 교육서로 쓰이거나, 조정과 지방에서 관리의 지침서로 권장되기도 하고, 선비들의 평소 수신서로서 활용되어, 설선의 『독서록』에 비해 교육적인 측면에서 의의가 더 부여된다고 보았다.
