This paper seeks to identify novels that have been considered non-mainstream in the history of Korean literature that show the imagination of metamorphoses, defines them as speculative fiction_(SF), and identifies the capabilities and politics that can be generated from them. Choi In-hoon's “Seo-Yu-Gy” proposes the possibility of creating tradition through the incarnation of the most personal and intimate memories in order to challenge the dominant ways of economic modernization that ignore the reality of division and confront the dualism of foreign discourses such as democracy and socialism. In Han Kang's “The Fruit of My Woman,” the positionality of the wife-tree simultaneously represents the limiting power of familism's gender norms and the ability to break free vertically. In this case, wife-tree-becoming becomes a mapping of reorientation and repositioning as an active process of female-becoming that always subtracts binaries. In Hwang Jeong-en's “The Roly-Poly and the Warbler,” roly-poly-becoming is confirmed to be an inter-performative repetition and movement in which material and discourse are intra-actioned, and a process of disobedience to and escape from the enormity of neoliberal governance. Furthermore, it suggests the possibility of a diffractive reading to the reader. The ‘n’ transformations of becoming a serpent, becoming a tree, and becoming a roly-poly are lines of escape from ideology and norms that are not confined to any entity or fixed meaning, and are a process of creation that is constantly renewed. The metamorphoses in their novels are therefore not vain fantasies or escapist defeatism, but rather powerful experiments in reworlding and a literary politics of disobedience to the dominant mode.

본고는 그간의 한국문학사에서 비주류로 여겨져온 변신의 상상력이 보이는 소설들을 찾아 사변소설(SF)로 규정하고 거기에서 생성 가능한 역능과 정치성을 확인하고자 하였다. 최인훈의 『서유기』는 분단 현실을 외면하고 경제근대화로 점철되어가는 다수적 방식을 문제 삼고 민주주의, 사회주의와 같은 외래 담론의 이원론에 맞서기 위해 가장 개인적이고 내밀한 기억의 육화(肉化)를 통한 전통의 창발 가능성을 제안한다. 한강의 ｢내 여자의 열매｣에서는 아내-나무의 형상화가 가부장적 젠더 규범이 제한하는 권력임을 나타냄과 동시에 수직으로의 탈주를 가능하게 하는 역능임을 표현한다. 이때 아내의 나무-되기는 이분법을 빼는 여성-되기의 능동적 과정으로서 아내를 식물로 고정시켜 성차의 대립을 강화하고 수동성을 부여하는 대신 방향과 배치를 바꾸는 지도 그리기가 된다. 황정은의 ｢오뚝이와 지빠귀｣에서 오뚝이-되기는 물질과 담론이 상호 얽히는 간-행의 반복이자 운동이며, 막막하고 거대한 신자유주의 통치성에 불복하고 비인간 퀴어화를 통해 거기에서 벗어나는 과정임이 확인된다. 나아가 독자에게도 회절적 독해의 가능성을 제안한다. 구렁이-되기, 나무-되기, 오뚝이-되기라는 n개의 변신은 어떤 존재나 고정된 의미에 갇히지 않고 이데올로기와 규범을 탈피해온 탈주선들이며, 끊임없이 새로워지는 생성의 과정이다. 그렇기에 이들의 소설에서 나타난 변신의 사변은 허무맹랑한 공상이거나 현실 도피적인 패배주의가 아니라 오히려 강력한 재세계화의 실험들이자 다수적인 방식에 불복종하는 문학의 정치성을 갖는다.
