This study aimed to explore and compare pre-service elementary teachers’ perceived fear of classroom guidance and counseling before and after the Seoi Elementary School incident, a nationally significant school tragedy in Korea. Experience reports were collected from 190 third-year students enrolled at D National University of Education, and analyzed using the modified Consensual Qualitative Research for the Modified version(CQR-M). The analysis yielded 6 domains and 27 categories characterizing the nature of the participants' fears: (1) student-based classroom guidance, (2) counseling with parents, (3) malicious complaints, (4) counseling skills and strategies, (5) coping strategies for overcoming fear, and (6) future teachers’ commitment to overcoming fear as a teacher. Based on these findings, this study discusses ways to enhance the quality of classroom guidance and counseling courses offered at national universities of education. Furthermore, it emphasizes that the Seoi Elementary School incident constitutes both a case of vicarious trauma and role identity trauma for pre-service elementary school teachers.

본 연구는 서이초 사건 전후로 예비 초등교사들이 인식하는 생활지도 및 상담에 대한 두려 움을 각각 탐색한 후 그 양상의 변화를 살펴보는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 D 교육대학교 3학년 190명의 학생을 대상으로 경험보고서를 수집하였으며, 수정된 합의적 질적 연구 (CQR-M)의 방법을 사용하여 분석하였다. 본 연구 결과, 예비 초등교사들의 생활지도 및 상담 에 대한 두려움은 6개 영역, 27개의 범주로 도출되었으며, 각 영역은 ‘학생 유형별 생활지도’, ‘학부모 상담’, ‘악성 민원’, ‘상담 기술과 전략’, ‘두려움을 극복하려는 대처방안과 노력’, ‘두 려움 극복을 위한 추후 교사로서의 다짐’으로 나타났다. 이를 토대로 본 연구에서는 교육대 학교에서 운영 중인 생활지도 및 상담 강좌의 내실화 방안 등에 대해 논의함과 더불어 서이 초 사건은 예비 초등교사인 교육대학교 학생에게 간접외상이자 역할 정체성 외상 사건에 해 당함을 강조하였다.
