The purpose of this study is to examine the experiences of ‘Hope Stepping Stone Project’ Foyer model participants currently aging out of foster care, and to suggest policy improvement measures based on the results. To this end, individual interviews were conducted with 11 youths aging out of foster care from the Gangwon, Busan, and Daegu centers. These interviews were then analyzed according to the inductive thematic analysis method of general qualitative research. The results of the analysis establish three major themes – ‘leaving facility: reality hit me’, ‘Opportunity to prepare for independence’, ‘Back into the world: Self-reliance is a process of making together’ with nine sub-themes. Based on these analysis results, this study suggests policy developments.

본 연구의 목적은 우리나라 Foyer 모델인 희망디딤돌 사업에 참여한 자립준비청년들의 자립경험을 살펴 보고, 그에 따른 정책적 발전방안을 제시하는 것이다. 이를 위해 희망디딤돌 사업 1기로 출범한 강원, 부산, 대구 센터에서 자립통합지원서비스를 받았던 자립준비청년 11명을 대상으로 개별 인터뷰를 진행하였으며, 일반적 질적 연구의 귀납적 주제분석법에 따라 자료를 분석하였다. 그 결과 <퇴소: 생각과 달랐던 현실>, <센터생활: 자립을 실제적으로 준비할 기회>, <다시 세상 속으로: 자립은 나와 네가 함께 만들어가는 과정>이라는 3개의 대주제와 9 개의 소주제가 도출되었다. 이러한 분석결과를 바탕으로 정확한 정보전달과 홍보를 통한 접근성 제고, 자립역량 제고를 위한 입주청년 자치회 구성과 자조모임 활성화, 유관기관과의 연계를 통한 사후관리 강화, 종사자 역량 제 고 등의 정책적 발전방안을 제시하였다
