The relationship between oral diseases and systemic diseases has been reported, highlighting the importance of oral health. This study evaluated the pharmacological performance of the extract from the Caesalpinia sappan L. in inhibiting microorganisms involved in oral diseases and confirmed its efficacy. To develop a sustained-release formulation for oral use, an oral film containing the extract was manufactured. The oral film, composed of water-soluble polymer, was created using collagen extracted from jellyfish and gellan gum to ensure the desired physical properties. The final selected composition of jellyfish collagen and gellan gum in a 1:1 ratio confirmed the sustained release of the Caesalpinia sappan L. extract. The main component, brazilin, exhibited excellent antibacterial properties, inhibiting bacteria while being released from the oral film without staining the enamel, which is the hard tissue of teeth. The oral film containing Caesalpinia sappan L. extract is a promising material for addressing oral diseases and has potential applications as a medical device and pharmaceutical product.

구강질환과 전신질환의 관계성이 보고되면서 구강 건강에 대한 중요성이 높아지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 구강질환에 관여된 미생물을 저해하는 소목의 약리적 성능을 평가하고 효능을 확인하였다. 구강내 서방출 제형 개 발을 위해 소목 추출물이 담지된 구강 필름을 제조하였다. 해파리(jelly fish)에서 추출한 콜라겐과 젤란검(gellan gum)을 조성으로 물성이 확보된 구강필름을 제조하였다. 최종으로 소목이 담지된 해파리 콜라겐과 젤란검 1:1 조 성필름에서 소목 추출물의 서방출을 확인하였다. 소목의 주원료인 브라질린(brazilin) 성분은 항균능이 우수하며, 구강필름에서 방출되면서 균을 저해하고, 치아의 경조직인 법랑질에 착색이 되지 않음을 확인하였다. 소목이 담지 된 구강필름은 구강질환에 활용이 가능한 소재이며, 의료기기 및 의약품으로 사용 가능성을 확인하였다.
