The exhibition industry serves as a cornerstone of the MICE sector, functioning as a global business platform that facilitates cross-sector exchange and innovation. However, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) reporeted that MICE participants generate substantial amount of CO2 with the industry's collective carbon footprint as much as the United States' annual greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to over 10% of global CO2 emissions. In response to these environmental concerns, sustainability has emerged as a strategic priority in the exhibition industry, with ESG practices becoming a prerequisite for global market competitiveness. Yet extant ESG principals fail to fully address the exhibition industry's unique characteristics. Thus, this research seeks to conduct a set of big data analytics to investigate global ESG trends in the exhibition industry and to identify changes of ESG practices over the time. The methodology employs LDA topic modeling to analyze 96 UFI 'Sustainable Development Award' winning reports spanning a decade, stratified into three periods: early (2015-2018, 36 cases), middle (2019-2021, 32 cases), and recent (2022-2024, 28 cases). The findings from this longitudinal analysis of UFI award cases seek to establish an empirical foundation for developing an ESG evaluation framework for the domestic exhibition industry.

전시산업에서 ESG(환경·사회·지배구조)는 지속가능한 성장과 글로벌 경쟁력 확보의 핵심 요소로 부상하고 있다. 전 생애주기평가(LCA)에 따르면, 전시산업 참가자는 1인당 최대 3,000kg의 CO2를 배출하며 이는 전 세계 CO2 배출량의 10%를 상회한다. 이러한 환경적 영향의 심각성이 인식됨에 따라 지속가능성은 전시산업의 핵심 전략으로, ESG 실천은 불가피한 과제로 자리매김하게 되었다. 그러나 현행 ESG 평가체계는 전시산업 의 고유한 운영 메커니즘과 가치사슬을 제대로 반영하지 못하고 있어 문제점이 제기되 고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 UFI 지속가능발전상 수상 보고서 10개년, 96건을 초기 (2015-2018, 36건), 중기(2019-2021, 32건), 후기(2022-2024, 28건)로 구분하여 LDA 토픽 모델링을 활용하여 분석하였다. 이를 통해 전시산업 ESG 발전 궤적을 시간흐름에 따라 규명하였으며, 이러한 연구 결과는 국내 전시산업 맞춤형 ESG 평가체계 구축을 위한 실증적 기반을 제공할 것으로 기대된다.
