Since the Serious Accident Punishment Act(SAPA), interest in reduction of serious accidents has been increasing in the construction industry. This study aims to evaluate the workers’ understanding of SAPA and to analyze effect of their awareness on serious accident reduction and safety & health performance. We conducted Pearson correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis to confirm whether the main factors (attitude, experience, and cognition) of awareness on SAPA affect serious accident reduction. The results of the analysis showed that awareness of the SAPA had a positive effect on serious accident reduction. In addition, the effect of various factors such as age, education level, industry, and job on serious accident reduction and safety and health performance was examined. There were significant differences in serious accident reduction and safety and health performance depending on education level, job, and industry. We suggest that raising awareness of the SAPA can make a significant contribution to reducing serious accidents and improving safety and health performance. So a direction for improving safety culture can be proposed at construction sites.

중대재해처벌법 시행 이후, 건설업계와 사회 전반에서 중대재해의 예방과 감소에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 본 연구는 건설현장 근로자들의 중대재해처벌법에 대한 이해 수준을 평가하고, 이 법에 대한 인식이 중대재해감소와 안전보건성과에 미치는 영향을 실증적으로 분석하는 데 목적을 두고 있다. 연구 방법은 중대재해처벌법 인식의 주요 요인(태도, 경험, 인지)이 중대재해 감소에 유의한 영향을 미치는지 확인하고자 피어슨 상관분석과 다중회귀분석을 수 행하였다. 분석 결과, 중대재해처벌법 인식이 중대재해 감소에 긍정적인 영향을 미치며, 특히 태도 요인의 영향력이 가장 큰 것으로 나타났다. 이와 더불어, 연령, 학력, 업종, 직무 등 다양한 요인들이 중대재해감소와 안전보건성과에 미치는 영향을 검토하였다. 학력, 직무, 업종 등에 따라 중대재해 감소와 안전보건 성과에 유의한 차이가 나타났다. 예를 들어, 현장소장이나 관리감독자의 경우 안전보건 성과에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 우리는 중 대재해처벌법에 대한 인식 제고가 중대재해감소 및 안전보건성과 향상에 중요한 기여를 할 수 있음을 시사하며, 이를 통해 건설현장 안전문화 개선의 방향성을 제시하고자 한다.
