In recent years, an increasing number of pre-service teachers enrolled in colleges of education have been opting out of entering the teaching profession, raising concerns about the weakening identity of the institutions and the resulting individual and societal costs. Against this backdrop, this study examines the career intentions of pre-service secondary teachers and analyzes the factors influencing their decision to pursue a teaching career. Using a quantitative research approach, data were collected through an online survey administered to pre-service teachers from five colleges of education in the Seoul metropolitan area. Responses from 268 participants were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA (F-tests), and multiple regression analysis. The findings indicate that pre-service secondary teachers’ intentions to enter the teaching profession are relatively low. Key factors influencing their career decisions include motivations for entring colleges of education—both intrinsic and extrinsic—as well as their satisfaction with core educational components, such as classes for major and teacher education programs. However, concerns that negative societal perceptions of the teaching profession or entry barriers may deter students from pursuing a teaching career were not statistically supported. Building on these findings, this study offers policy recommendations to enhance the role of colleges of education in fulfilling their mission as specialized institutions dedicated to the preparation and development of highly qualified secondary school teachers.

최근 사범대학에 입학한 예비교사들이 교직 진출을 고려하지 않는 현상이 증가하면서 우수 교사양성이라는 사범대학의 정체성이 흔들리고, 개인적ㆍ사회적 비용 증가를 초래한다는 문 제인식에서 본 연구는 사범대학에 재학 중인 예비 중등교사들의 교직 진출 의도에 초점을 맞 추어 그 영향 요인을 다각적으로 분석하는 데 목적을 두었다. 연구를 위해 수도권 사범대학 에 재학 중인 예비교사를 대상으로 연구진이 제작한 조사지 기반 온라인 설문조사 실시로 수 집한 268명의 응답자료를 기술통계, 배경변인에 따른 차이검증, 다중회귀분석방법으로 분석하 였다. 연구 결과, 사범대에 재학 중인 예비 중등교사들의 교직 진출 의도는 사범대가 전문적 교사양성을 위한 목적형 대학이라는 점을 고려할 때 그리 높지 않은 것으로 밝혀졌고, 그들 의 교직 진출 의도에는 내재적 및 외재적 사범대 진학동기, 그리고 전공수업 및 교직수업과 같은 사범대가 제공하는 핵심 교육에 대한 만족도가 영향을 미친다는 것을 확인하였다. 교직 에 대한 부정적 인식이나 교직 진입 장벽 때문에 교직 진출을 포기한다는 우려는 통계적으로 확인되지 않았다. 이상 발견점을 토대로 목적형 중등교사 양성기관인 사범대학이 우수한 교 사양성 및 배출의 사명을 보다 충실하게 수행하는 데 도움이 되는 정책적 제언을 제시하였다.
