This study is part of an effort to establish a critical edition of Daijō-hossō-kenjin-shō (大乘法相硏神章), a work written by Gomyō, who represents the Japanese legal tradition. Ken Shin Jō (硏神章) is currently distributed in a total of 9 types. The reason that proper research on Ken Shin Jō has not been conducted is that there has been a significant lack of materials on the topics of Gomyō (護命) and Ken Shin Jō itself, which should have been provided as research data to scholars. Moreover, it is assumed that there are also issues within the published texts themselves. Therefore, creating a newly corrected edition through a comparison of the published editions and manuscript versions, centered around the Dongsa Gwanjiwon edition, which is the only one currently preserving all five volumes of Ken Shin Jō is the most important foundational task for the study of “Yeonshinjang” and the goal of this research. In this paper, the texts were reexamined focusing on the Gwanjiwon edition, the Daejeong edition, and the Buljeon edition. As a result of the study, three points were confirmed that differed from previous expectations. The first point is that the Daejeong edition revised the text and omitted certain records. The second point is that the Buljeon edition similarly omitted records of collation and correction. The third point is that most of the errors in the published editions arose from issues in the original transcription of the Gwanjiwon edition itself. Recognizing these issues and creating a newly corrected edition through the collation of each text will undoubtedly serve as an important foundation for the study of Ken Shin Jō and it is hoped that, based on this, in-depth research by scholars will follow.
