This paper aims to analyze the personality traits and behavioral motivations of the main characters in the Disney animation “Zootopia”, and explore the methods and effects of animation in conveying social messages. The study uses three theoretical frameworks: MBTI personality type analysis, Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory, and narrative structure analysis to conduct an in-depth analysis centered on four characters: Judy Hopps, Nick Wilde, Bellwether, and Chief Bogo. The results of the study confirmed that the personality and needs of each character play an important role in conveying the message of the film, and that core themes such as overcoming prejudice, cooperation, and social inclusion are effectively conveyed to the audience through the growth of the characters and changes in their relationships. In particular, Judy and Nick's cooperative narrative functions as a process of resolving social conflict and prejudice, and Bellwether's reversal narrative emphasizes the issues of power and discrimination. In addition, the study analyzed how animation emotionally conveys messages through the appearance, color, and directing techniques of characters by utilizing powerful visual storytelling techniques. The study highlights that Zootopia is not simply a piece of entertainment, but rather functions as a medium that effectively conveys complex issues in modern society, suggesting that animation can play an important role not only in popular culture but also in education and social discourse.

이 논문은 디즈니 애니메이션 “주토피아(Zootopia)” 속 주요 캐릭터들의 성격적 특성과 행동 동기를 분석하고, 이를 통해 애니메이션이 사회적 메시지를 전달하는 방식과 효과를 탐구하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 연구는 MBTI 성격 유형 분석, Maslow의 욕구 단계 이론, 서 사 구조 분석이라는 세 가지 이론적 틀을 활용하여 주디 홉스, 닉 와일드, 벨웨더, 치프 보고 네 캐릭터를 중심으로 심층 분석을 진행한다. 연구 결과, 각 캐릭터의 성격과 욕구가 영화의 메시 지 전달에 중요한 역할을 하며, 편견 극복, 협력, 사회 적 포용과 같은 핵심 주제가 캐릭터의 성장과 관계 변 화를 통해 관객에게 효과적으로 전달됨을 확인했다. 특히, 주디와 닉의 협력 서사는 사회적 갈등과 편견을 해 결하는 과정으로 기능하며, 벨웨더의 반전 서사는 권력 과 차별의 문제를 강조한다. 또한, 애니메이션이 강력한 시각적 스토리텔링 기법 을 활용하여 캐릭터의 외형, 색채, 연출 기법을 통해 메시지를 감성적으로 전달하는 방식을 분석하였다. 연구는 주토피아가 단순한 오락 작품이 아니라 현대 사회 의 복잡한 이슈를 효과적으로 전달하는 매체로 기능한다는 점을 강조하며, 애니메이션이 대중문화뿐만 아니 라 교육 및 사회적 담론에서도 중요한 역할을 할 수 있음을 시사한다.
