Xuande Gate in Bianjing of the Northern Song Dynasty is the most open etiquette field of the Song Dynasty. It is the etiquette place where the emperor of the Northern Song Dynasty directly faces the people. It has special political functions: first, it accepts prisoners and declares imperial prestige; second, it announced amnesty and spread the emperor’s grace; third, it provides places to share happiness with people in the Lantern festival. Due to the special status of Xuande Gate, it also became a special field of some political events in the Northern Song Dynasty. This paper makes a systematic study on the evolution, political function and some political events of Xuande Gate in the Northern Song Dynasty. It is not only a deepening of the historical study of Dongjing City in the Northern Song Dynasty, but also a supplement to the study of political history in the Northern Song Dynasty.

북송 변경(汴京)의 선덕문(宣德門)은 조송(趙宋) 제국이 가장 공개적으로 의례를 행하던 상징적 공간으로, 황제가 백성을 직접 마주하며 국가 의식을 치르던 정치적 장소였다. 이곳은 세 가지 특수한 정치 기능을 지녔는데, 첫째 포로를 바치며 황제의 위엄을 선포하는 장소, 둘째 대사를 반포하여 황은(皇恩)을 전파하는 장소, 셋째 등 불 행사와 축제 때 백성들과 함께 즐기며 은혜를 베푸는 장소로 활용되었다. 또한 선 덕문은 그 상징성으로 인해 북송 시기 여러 정치적 사건들의 특수한 무대가 되기도 하였다. 본고는 선덕문의 건축적 변천 과정, 정치⋅의례적 기능, 그리고 이곳에서 발 생한 역사적 사건들을 체계적으로 고찰함으로써 북송 도성 연구의 심화와 정치사 연 구 영역의 보완을 도모하고자 한다.
