Modern Korean society has become increasingly individualized and fragmented, leading to the collapse of community and solidarity and the disconnection of human relationships. However, paradoxically, each individual still longs for a relationship that transcends boundaries. This study proposes ‘Friendship’ as a mission paradigm that is called for in situations where the opposite phenomena of relationship disconnection and longing coexist, and seeks to find a model of friendship mission in the mission of Rev. Pang Ji Ihl, a Chinese Shan-dong missionary who believed and practiced that the gospel can be fully received when the giver and receiver of the gospel had an equal love as friends. This study analyzes his friendship mission based on Dana L. Robert's theory that friendship in mission provides opportunities for spiritual formation, serves as a channel for transformation, and is ultimately an incarnational missionary practice, and further suggests that his friendship mission was a ‘Companion Mission’ with local people; a ‘Cooperation Mission’ that transcends borders, denominations, etc. to work together as one body in Christ; and a ‘Reciprocity Mission’ that is embodied in a relationship of mutual respect and trust with local people. His open-hearted, boundarybreaking friendship mission will serve as a key model for realizing God's mission in today's individualized and fragmented Korean society.

현대의 한국 사회는 점차 개인화, 파편화되어 공동체성 및 연대는 붕괴되고 인간관계는 단절되고 있다. 그러나 역설적으로 각 개인은 여전히경계를 초월하는 관계를 갈망하고 있다. 본 연구는 관계의 단절과 갈망이라는 상반된 현상이 공존하는 상황에서 요청되는 선교 패러다임으로 ‘우정’ 을 제시하고, 복음을 전하는 자와 받는 자가 친구로서 대등한 사랑이 성립될 때 복음을 온전히 받아들일 수 있다고 믿고 실천했던 중국 산동 선교사방지일(方之日) 목사의 선교에서 우정선교의 모형을 찾고자 했다. 선교에있어서 우정이 영성을 형성하고, 변혁의 통로가 되며, 성육신적 선교의 실천이라고 제시한 데이나 로버트(Dana L. Robert)의 이론에 근거하여 그의우정선교를 분석하고, 나아가 그의 우정선교를 현지인들과 공존하는 ‘동행의 선교’, 국경, 교파 등을 초월하여 그리스도 안에서 한 몸처럼 연대하는‘협력의 선교’, 현지인들과의 상호 존중과 신뢰 관계에서 발현되는 ‘호혜의선교’로 제시하였다. 열린 마음으로 경계를 허물며 친구로 다가갔던 방지일의 우정선교는 오늘날과 같이 개인화, 파편화된 한국 사회에서 하나님의선교를 실현하는데 주요한 모델로 제공될 것이다.
