The influence of popular culture on individuals today can be said to be very great. However, the views of believers and church communities toward popular culture still do not seem friendly. Especially in situations where the church community is represented very negatively in popular culture such as movies and dramas, the tendency to view popular culture negatively is further strengthened. This phenomenon makes it difficult for the church community to respond appropriately to popular culture, which can be said to require the church community to construct an appropriate theology of popular culture. Accordingly, in addition to understanding popular culture, the author briefly examines the types of responses the church community shows toward popular culture, and then draws on Richard Niebuhr's Christ and Culture, which is believed to provide an interpretive framework for this type of relationship. Next, I would like to propose a model of popular culture theology as a mutually transformative dialogue that includes elements of application, correlation, and transformation, as a method of establishing an appropriate relationship between popular culture and the faith community.

오늘날 개인에게 미치는 대중문화의 영향력은 매우 크다고 할 것이다. 그러나 여전히 대중문화에 대한 신앙인들과 교회공동체의 시각은 우호적이지 않아 보인다. 특별히 영화나 드라마와 같은 대중문화에서 교회 공동체가 매우 부정적으로 재현되는 상황에서, 대중문화를 부정적으로 보는 경향은 더욱 강화되는 형국이다. 이러한 현상은 대중문화에 대한 교회공동체의 적절한 응답을 어렵게 하는 것으로, 이는 교회공동체로 하여금 적절한대중문화신학의 구성을 요청한다고 할 수 있다. 이에 필자는 대중문화에대한 이해와 함께, 교회공동체가 대중문화에 대해 보여주고 있는 응답의유형들을 간략하게 살펴본 후, 이러한 관계유형의 해석틀을 제공하고 있다고 여겨지는 리차드 니버의 『그리스도와 문화』(Christ and Culture)에 나온유형론적 분석을 음미할 것이다. 이후 대중문화와 신앙공동체와의 적절한관계 맺음의 방식으로서, 적용, 상관성, 변혁성의 요소를 포함하는 상호변혁적 대화로서의 대중문화신학의 한 모델을 제안하고자 한다.
