The purpose of this study is to introduce the current status of retreat centers in the Yangon area of Myanmar and to expand the foundation of Myanmar Buddhist studies. To this end, the paper was written based on interviews with the staff of the representative retreat center in Yangon and related materials. First, the retreat center of the Mahasi lineage was introduced. Since its introduction to Korea in 1997, basic data on the parts that have been discussed so far, the current status, and overseas facilities were investigated and provided. Second, the Shwe Oo Min retreat center was introduced. The background of Shwe Oo Min’s rapid growth, current status, and future development direction were introduced. Third, the beginning of the Pandita Rama retreat center and the general appearance of the center were introduced. The results of this study provided some basic data on the current status of retreat centers centered on the Yangon area. It is realistically impossible to expand the study to the entire Myanmar due to the large amount of data, and it is difficult due to the political situation in Myanmar. Yangon is the central region of Myanmar, and it is expected that the development direction of Myanmar retreat centers will be determined based on its current status.

이 연구의 목적은 미얀마 양곤지역의 수행센터 현황을 소개해 미얀마 불교연구의 저변을 넓히는데 있다. 이를 위해 양곤의 대표 수행센터의 담당자들과의 인터뷰, 관련 자료를 중심으로 논문을 작성했다. 첫째, 마하시 계통의 수행센터를 소개했다. 1997년 한국에 소개된 이후, 그간 각론화되어 있던 부분과 현재의 상황, 해외시설 등의 기초자료를 조사해 제공했다. 둘째, 쉐우민 수행센터를 소개했다. 쉐우민의 급성장 배경과 현재의 모습, 향후 발전 방향성을 소개했다. 셋째, 판디타라마 수행센터의 시작과 센터의 개괄적인 모습을 소개했다. 이 연구의 결과는 양곤 지역을 중심으로 수행센터 현황에 대한 일정 부분의 기초자료를 제공했다. 미얀마 전역으로 연구를 확대하기에는 그 양이 방대해 현실적으로 불가능하고 미얀마 내의 정치적 상황과 맞물려 자료수집과 필드조사의 어려움이 있다. 양곤은 미얀마의 중심 지역으로 이곳의 모습을 토대로 미얀마 수행센터의 발전 방향을 가름하는데 일정 역할을 할 것으로 판단된다.
