Extreme weather events resulting from climate change have caused significant physical damage to nations and cities. This study aims to assess the macroeconomic impacts of climate risks in Chungbuk region and, based on these findings, enhance regional climate risk response strategies. The analysis covers 11 cities and counties in Chungbuk, utilizing panel data constructed to estimate both the direct and indirect losses incurred due to extreme weather events from 2000 to 2022. Extreme weather events were represented using daily maximum precipitation and peak instantaneous wind speed as proxy variables for heavy rainfall and typhoons/strong winds, which have caused the most substantial disaster-related damages in the region. Direct losses were measured using the financial damage from natural disasters, while indirect losses were assessed based on the per capita total value added in the manufacturing sector, a key industry in Chungbuk. To ensure the robustness of the results, the study used panel-corrected standard errors (PCSE) model for direct losses and System generalized method of moments (GMM) model for indirect losses. The findings indicate that both direct and indirect losses in Chungbuk are significantly influenced by heavy rainfall. Furthermore, the study reveals that various socioeconomic factors interact in complex ways, with certain region-specific characteristics also exerting influence.

기후변화의 심화에 따른 극한기후는 국가 및 도시에 물리적 피해를 주고 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 기후리스크로 인한 충북 지역의 거시경제적 영향을 파악하고, 이를 기반으로 지역 차원의 기후리스크 대응전략을 개선하는 데 핵심 목적을 둔다. 분석대상은 충북 11개 시·군으로, 2000년-2022년 극한기후로 인한 지역의 직접적·간접적 손실을 추정하기 위한 패널데이터를 구축하였다. 극한기후는 충북 지역에서 가장 큰 재난손실액을 발생시킨 호우와 태풍·강풍의 대리변수로 일최다강수량과 순간최대풍속을 활용하였다. 직접손실액은 자연재해 피해액을, 간접손실액은 충북 산업의 핵심인 제조업의 1인당 총부가가치액을 종속변수로 설정하였으며, 결과의 신뢰성을 위해 각각 패널표준오차수정모형과 시스템GMM 모형을 이용하여 분석하였다. 분석결과, 충북 지역은 직접손실액과 간접손실액 모두 호우의 영향을 크게 받고 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 다양한 사회경제적 요인들이 복합적으로 영향을 주고받는 가운데 일부 지역 특성에 기반한 요소들의 영향력도 발견되었다.
