In this article, we are going to understand the current status of research on how and to what extent research of Chapkwa has been conducted so far, and then discuss future tasks and prospects based on it. We investigated and organized the list of research achievements for Chapkwa(雜科) and its four sub-categories[interpretation(譯科), medical science(醫科), astrnomy(陰陽科) and law(律科)], and then looked at the research history from a macroscopic point of view. In consideration of the social meaning, ‘Chapkwa-Jungin’(雜科中人) as a social status, and ‘Chaphak’(雜學) as an education system are included. In the case of Chapkwa, it was confirmed that research results have been accumulated by conducting research in various adjacent academic fields as well as history. Interdisciplinary research through cooperation and division of labor is required. Beyond Chapkwa Pangmok(雜科榜目), the need to actively analyze and utilize new data, for example SeonsangAn(先生案), CheongoAn(薦擧案), Palsebo(八世譜) was also raised. It should also be noted that moving and mobility within Chapkwa, as well as advancement into other Kwageo(科擧) systems[Munkwa(文科), Mukwa(武科), Samashi(司馬試)]. This is because it is possible to uncover the organic relationship between the overall social changes and Chapkwa-Jungin in the late Joseon Dynasty beyond the Chapkwa and the middle class.

이 글에서는 지금까지 잡과 연구가 어떻게 그리고 어디까지 이루어져 왔는지 연구 성과를 파악한 다음, 앞으로의 과제와 전망에 대해 논의하고 있다. 잡과 전반에 걸쳐서 처음으로 시도된 검토라는 점에서 연구사적 의미가 있다고 하겠다. 먼저, 잡과 및 각 과목별[역과, 의과, 음양과, 율과] 연구 성과 목록을 조사, 정리했으며, 이어 거시적인 관점에서 연구사를 살펴보았다. 2000년 이전과 이후로 나누어 논의했지만, 초점은 2000년 이후의 성과에 주어지고 있다. 연구의 양뿐만 아니라 질적인 발전 역시 논의하고자 했기 때문이다. 신분으로서의 ‘잡과중인’, 교육으로서의 ‘잡학’에 대한 논의 역시 포함시켰다. 역사학뿐 아니라 다양한 인접 학문 분야에서 연구를 진행, 연구 성과를 축적해 오고 있다는 점이 확인되었다. 협력과 분업을 통한 학제 간 연구가 요청된다. 새로운 자료(선생안, 천거안, 팔세보)를 적극적으로 활용할 필요도 제기되었다. 잡과 내에서의 이동과 유동성, 그리고 다른 과거(문과, 무과, 사마시)로의 진출 등에 대해서도 주목해야 할 것이다.
