This study examines the importance of securing from school to home routes by school crossing guards. It is reported that more than half of traffic accidents in school zones have occurred between 2pm and 6pm, indicating the route back to home from school, and the percentage of lower grades is high. Thus, it is desirable to introduce and enhance school crossing guards’ systems. In Korea, school crossing guards are provided mostly by Green Mothers’ Association at primary schools. Green Mothers’ Association is a voluntary parent organization experienced with children's admission to elementary school. Based on research findings, this study shows the important role of Green Mothers Association to secure safe school routes from home to schools and suggests improvement of the association such as introducing afternoon school crossing guards.

본 연구는 다양한 교통안전지킴이 중 초등학교 등하굣길에서 중요한 역할을 하고 있는 녹색어머니회 조직 과 활동을 살펴보고, 개선방안을 제안한다. 연구 결과 2019년 도로교통법 개정 이후 아동보호구역내 교통사고 예 방 정책이 강화되었지만 실제 교통사고 발생 건수 감소 효과는 미비한 것으로 나타났다. 아동보호구역내 교통사고 의 절반 이상이 오후 시간인 2시-6시 사이 보행 중 사고였고, 초등학교 저학년 비율이 높았다. 이러한 통계 결과는 초등학교 저학년의 경우 다양한 보행 안전시설 설치와 함께 대면 안전지도가 필요함을 보여준다. 대면 교통 안전지 도의 방안으로 본 연구는 기존 봉사조직인 녹색어머니회를 활용할 것을 제안하며, 이를 위해 녹색어머니회의 역사 와 조직 구성, 활동 내용 등을 살펴보았다. 본 연구를 통해 녹색어머니회에 대한 이해도가 높아지고, 녹색어머니회 봉사가 하교시간까지 확대될 것을 기대한다.
