AHMM (Allford Hall Monaghan Morris) architects carry out an architectural process based on sustainability, defined as ‘a user experience that is pleasureable to understand and use.’ Since many works show unique perspectives on the use of color, I derived the methods and characteristics of color use from these works. The analysis targets 16 works created from the early 2000s to the present, and the analysis method was derived from a perspective linked to the color design process.Therefore, the following characteristics were extracted: It was expressed as ‘brand colors that build identity related to the use or purpose of the building,’ ‘supportive colors of popular perspectives that are easily perceived because they are applied as colors introduced with high saturation and multi-color, realistic images, and letters,’ ‘shapes and separations that give a unique perspective to simple architecture and reinforce the characteristics of architecture,’‘emphasis colors introduced differently for each architectural component,’ and ‘gradation colors derived from natural phenomena such as light phenomena.’ In addition, general methods such as ‘colors based on tradition’ and ‘color palettes derived from surrounding landscapes and natural objects’ were also used. In this way, I was able to see that architectural color is becoming a major tool for implementing architectural concepts.

AHMM(Allford Hall Monaghan Morris) 건축은 지속가능성을 기반으로 ‘즐겁게 이해하고 사용할 수 있는 사용자의 경험으로 정의’되는 건축을 수행한다. 이와 같은 개념을 기반으로 많은 작품에서 색채 사용의 독창적 관점이 나타나기 때문에 이를 대상으로 색채 사용 방식과 특징을 도출하였다. 분석 작품은 2000년도 초반부터 지금까지 구축된 작품 16개를 대상으로 하였으며, 분석 방식은 색채 디자인 과정과 연계성을 가지고 분석하였다. 따라서 다음과 같은 특징이 나타났다. 건물의 용도나 목적과 관련된 ‘정체성을 구축하는 브랜드 색채(Brand Color)’, 고채도와 다채색, 사실적 이미지, 문자 로 도입되는 색채로 쉽게 지각되는 ‘대중적 관점의 지원적 색채(affordance color), 단순한 건축에 독특 한 관점을 부여하여 건축의 특징을 강화하는 ‘형태와 분리, 건축 구성 요소별로 다르게 도입되는 강조색’, 빛의 현상과 같은 ‘자연의 현상에서 비롯된 그러데이션 색채’ 등으로 나타났다. 이외에도 ‘전통성을 기반으로 하는 색채’, ‘주변 경관과 자연물에서 도출된 색채 팔래트’ 등 범용적 방식도 사용되고 있었다. 이처럼 AHMM의 건축색채는 건축 개념을 이행하는 주요한 도구가 되고 있음을 알 수 있었다.
