VALIE EXPORT is a pioneer of feminist art and performance art, and her work critically explores the mechanisms of power through the medium of the body, presenting a strategy to dismantle gender and power structures. This study focuses on her representative works, and , analyzing the relationship between the body and power and examining them in connection with Michel Foucault’s theory of power. By applying Foucault’s concepts of disciplinary power and biopower, this study analyzes how EXPORT’s work subverts existing power structures and attempts a new form of subjectivation. Through this discussion, it aims to highlight the impact of her performances on contemporary feminist art and performance art. EXPORT’s works remain relevant in contemporary society. As Foucault’s theory of power has been refined and expanded in the digital environment, the female body continues to be regulated and surveilled in new ways through online media and algorithms. In this context, this study demonstrates that EXPORT’s work enables a critical reflection on today’s power structures and contributes to the exploration of how the body can be reconstructed as a site of resistance and subject formation. Through this, this study seeks to reassess EXPORT’s performances not merely as past artistic practices but as artistic interventions that require continuous critique and discourse in a contemporary context.
