This study explores the potential for integrating forest education into the formal curriculum within the context of Korea's High School Credit System(HSCS). Employing a mixed-methods approach that combines a quantitative survey of secondary school teachers with a focus group interview, the research investigates teachers' perceptions and implementation challenges. The findings suggest that while teachers view the HSCS as a strategic opportunity to institutionalize forest education, particularly through the use of out-of-school learning and community resources, significant barriers persist. These include insufficient physical and human infrastructure, limited collaboration with community institutions, and difficulties in fostering student interest. Additionally, there is a growing call for forest education to evolve beyond experiential learning and into vocational and career-oriented programs. Teachers emphasized the need for a governance network between local governments, schools, and forest education institutions, as well as enhanced teacher training and curriculum structuring. This study offers policy and educational insights to support the formalization of forest education, contributing to the broader integration of sustainability education within the school system.

본 연구는 고교학점제 도입이라는 교육정책 변화 속에서 산림교육의 학교 교육과정 연계 가능성과 활 성화 방안을 탐색하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 산림교육 관련 중등 교사를 대상으로 설문조사와 초점집단면 담(FGI)을 병행하여 교사들의 인식과 실행 과제를 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 교사들은 고교학점제가 산림교 육을 제도적으로 편입할 수 있는 기회가 될 수 있다고 보았으며, 특히 학교 밖 학습과 지역사회 자원의 활용 가능성에 대해 긍정적인 기대를 가지고 있었다. 그러나 현장 실행 수준에서는 교육시설, 기자재, 전 공교사 확보 등 물적·인적 인프라의 부족, 지역사회 기관과의 협력 미흡, 학생 흥미 유도의 어려움 등이 산림교육 도입의 주요 저해 요인으로 나타났다. 또한, 산림교육이 단순한 체험 중심 활동에서 벗어나 진 로·직업교육으로 확장되어야 한다는 요구가 확인되었으며, 이를 위해 지역사회-학교-산림기관 간의 거버넌 스 체계 구축과 교원 전문성 제고, 교육과정의 구조화가 필요하다는 점이 강조되었다.
