This study uses data from the 1st to 14th rounds of the youth panel (2007-2020) of the Korea Employment Information Service to analyze the characteristics of young people who graduated from schools located in the metropolitan area and non-metropolitan areas and the location of jobs (metropolitan and non-metropolitan areas). The purpose is to analyze the labor market performance, etc. As a result of the analysis, the wage level of workers belonging to ‘Type 1 (last school in the metropolitan area - current job in the metropolitan area)’ was 6% higher, and ‘Type 3 (last school in the non-metropolitan area - current job in the metropolitan area)’ was 5.1% higher. Through the analysis results, it can be seen that the wage level of young people who graduated from the final school in a non-metropolitan area and then got a job at a company in a non-metropolitan area received a significantly lower wage than other types. In order to improve the employment performance of young people from non-metropolitan areas, structural support is needed, and support policies are needed for industrial diversification to create jobs in the region.

동 연구는 한국고용정보원의 청년패널조사 1-14차 조사(2007~2020년)를 이용하여 수도권, 비수도권에 소재한 학교를 졸업한 청년층의 특성과 취업한 일자리의 소재지에 따른 노동시장 성과 등을 분석하였다. 분석 결과, ‘유형 1(수도권 최종학교-수도권 현 직장)’에 속한 근로자의 임금수준은 8% 높게 나타났으며, ‘유형 3(비수도권 최종학교-수도권 현 직장)’은 6.2% 높게 나타났다. 연구 결과를 통해, 비수도권 소재 최 종학교를 졸업한 후 비수도권 지역의 기업에 취업한 청년층의 임금수준은 다른 유형에 비해 현저히 낮은 임금을 받는 것으로 파악할 수 있다. 비수도권 지역 출신 청년층의 취업 성과 향상을 위해서는 구조적 지원이 필요하며, 지역 내 고용 창출을 위한 산업 다각화를 위한 지원 정책이 필요하다. 또한, 지역별 임 금 수준을 보완하기 위한 청년 취업 지원금을 도입하거나 확대하여 비수도권에서 일하는 청년들에게 실 질적인 경제적 혜택을 제공해야 한다.
