This study analyzes the aesthetic strategy of cinematic incompleteness and its effects on audience immersion and active interpretation. While existing film studies have emphasized technical perfection and the clear delivery of narratives, this research highlights how intentionally designed incomplete audiovisual elements stimulate psychological tension and cognitive desire through sensory deprivation and uncertainty. Drawing on Skinner’s Uncertainty Theory and Stuart Hall’s Encoding/Decoding Theory, the study systematically examines mechanisms through which incomplete sound (e.g., repetitive ticking sounds, irregular gunshots), unstable visuals (e.g., handheld camera work, limited frames), and low-saturation colors or lighting deficiencies deepen audience immersion. The findings reveal that incomplete audiovisual components evoke psychological pressure while encouraging creative imagination and active interpretation to fill the perceptual void. This demonstrates that sensory deprivation functions not as a flaw but as a strategic device to maximize interaction with the audience, presenting a new direction for contemporary film aesthetics.

본 연구는 영화적 불완전성의 미학적 전략이 관객 몰입과 주체적 해석에 미치는 영 향을 분석하였다. 기존의 영화 연구는 기술적 완성도와 명확한 내러티브 전달을 중시해 왔으나, 본 연구는 의도적으로 설계된 불완전한 시청각적 장치가 감각적 결핍과 불확실 성을 통해 관객의 심리적 긴장과 인지적 갈망을 자극하는 과정에 주목한다. 스키너의 불확실성 이론과 스튜어트 홀의 수용자 해독 이론을 이론적 기반으로 삼아, 불완전한 사운드(반복적 시계 소리, 불규칙한 총성), 불안정한 시각적 구도(핸드헬드 카메라, 제 한된 프레임), 그리고 저채도 색감과 조명의 결핍이 관객의 몰입을 심화시키는 메커니 즘을 체계적으로 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 불완전한 시청각적 요소는 관객에게 심리적 압박을 유발하면서도 공백을 채우기 위한 창의적 상상과 주체적 해석을 유도하는 것으 로 나타났다. 이는 감각적 결핍이 단순한 결함이 아니라 관객과의 상호작용을 극대화하 는 전략적 장치임을 입증하며, 현대 영화 미학의 새로운 방향성을 제시한다.
