This study examines Jang Kang-myung's perception of the youth generation in his novels through the embodiment of femininity in his works. Identifying himself as a member of the 1990s (Generation X), Jang critically reflects on contemporary youth from multiple perspectives through various characters, situations, and events in his narratives. The primary texts analyzed in this study are Bleach (2011), Because I Hate Korea (2015), and Reinvestigation (2022). These works vividly depict the characteristics and realities of youth representing different generations from the 2000s to the present. Jang's exploration ranges from detachment from reality to the possibilities of the future and from specific social incidents to fundamental inquiries into human nature, achieving a high level of depth and complexity. The female coming-of-age narratives employed in this process serve to reawaken readers to the structural inequalities within society. The evolving female characters function not merely as figures within the narrative but as provocative entities that expose social issues and pose critical questions to the audience. Jang Kang-myung’s novels, which address specific issues of Korean society through the framework of female coming-of-age narratives, highlight the continuing social role of literature even in an era saturated with visual media and diverse content. His works offer a meaningful exploration of literature’s capacity to engage with and critique contemporary social structures.

이 연구는 장강명 소설에 나타난 작가의 청춘 세대에 대한 인식을 작품에 나타난 여성성의 구현으로써 살핀다. 장강명은 스스로를 90년대(X세대)라 자처하면서, 작품의 다양한 인물과 상황 사건을 통해 현 시대의 청춘의 모습을 다각도로 성찰했다. 주요 논의 대상은 <표백> (2011), <한국이 싫어서> (2015), <재수사> (2022)로 삼는다. 이 작품은 2000년대 이후, 현재에 이르기까지 각 세대를 상징하는 청춘의 양상과 모습을 매우 구체적으로 드러내는 장강명의 대표 장편소설이 다. 그 과정은 현실에 대한 이탈로부터 미래에 대한 가능성에 이르기까지, 구체적인 사회사건에서부터 인간 본질에 대한 탐구에 이르기까지 매우 깊이 있고 밀도 있게 이루어졌다. 이 과정에 동원된 여성의 성장서 사는 독자에게 사회의 불평등한 구조를 다시금 인식게 한다. 성장하는 여성 인물은 단순한 서사 속 캐릭터가 아 니라, 현실 사회의 문제를 드러내고 독자에게 질문을 던지는 하나의 도전적인 존재로 기능했다. 한국사회의 구체적인 문제 제기를 여성의 성장서 사로 풀어나가고 있는 장강명의 소설은 영상과 다양한 콘텐츠가 범람하는 시대에도 문학의 사회적 역할을 다양하게 모색해 볼 가능성을 제공한다.
