This study analyzes the impact of Korean universities' innovation activities on regional innovation. It examines the development of the regional innovation system (RIS) concept and the evolving role of universities. University innovation activities are categorized into four areas: human resource supply, research performance, technology commercialization, and start-up support. Data from 2020-2022 were collected from the Higher Education in Korea Portal, managed by the Korean Council for University Education. The dependent variable, R-COSTII, was sourced from the Regional Science and Technology Innovation Capacity Evaluation by KISTEP. Simple regression analysis was conducted to assess the influence of university innovation activities on R-COSTII, and scatter plots were used to visualize regional distributions. The analysis revealed that research performance, technology commercialization, and start-up support positively impact regional innovation, with student start-up sales and international patent registrations showing significant effects. Additionally, scatter plot analysis identified two patterns: universities in Seoul and metropolitan areas contribute through start-up performance, while those in regions with National Institutes of Science and Technology drive innovation via technology commercialization. This study highlights the regional contributions of university innovation activities and offers insights for developing tailored regional innovation strategies.

본 연구는 국내 대학의 혁신 활동이 지역혁신에 미치는 영향을 분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 지역혁신체제의 개념 발전과 대학 역할 변화를 살펴본 후, 대학의 혁신 활동을 인력공 급, 연구성과, 기술사업화, 창업지원 네 가지 측면으로 나누어 지역혁신에 미치는 영향을 분석하 였다. 전국 대학의 혁신활동 수치의 경우 한국대학교교육협의회에서 관리하고 있는 대학 주요 정 보 공시시스템인 대학알리미의 2020년부터 2022년까지 대학 혁신활동의 3개년 데이터를 수집하 였고 종속변수의 경우 한국과학기술기획평가원(KISTEP)의 「2020년~2022년 지역 과학기술혁신 역량평가」상에 공개된 R-COSTII 지수를 활용하였다. 대학의 혁신활동이 종속변수인 R-COSTII 에 미치는 영향을 파악하기 위해 단순 회귀분석을 수행하였고 주요 독립변수들 간의 관계를 산포 도로 시각화하여 지역별로 나타나는 대학혁신활동의 분포를 시각적으로 탐색하였다. 분석 결과, 연구성과, 기술사업화, 창업지원 측면에서 대학의 혁신 활동이 지역혁신에 긍정적 영향을 미쳤으며, 특히 학생창업기업 매출액과 국제 특허 등록건수가 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났 다. 또한, 산포도 분석을 통해 서울·대도시 대학은 창업성과 중심으로, 과학기술원 소재 지역의 대학은 기술사업화를 중심으로 지역혁신에 기여하는 두 가지 유형이 확인되었다. 본 연구는 대학 혁신활동이 지역혁신에 어떤 유형과 강도로 기여하는지를 확인하여 지역혁신 활성화와 관련하여 시사점을 제공한다.
