The purpose of this study is to examine the activities of the Korean National Association of Cuban Koreans in the independence movement. The research method was to analyze press releases from the Korean National Association’s official journal, Shinhanminbo. The results of the research are as follows. First, Korean immigration to Cuba began in March 1921 when they moved from Yucatan, Mexico to the Manati sugarcane plantation in Cuba. Second, Koreans in Cuba moved from Martini to Matanzas in search of jobs, and when the Japanese consulate in Havana forced them to register as Japanese nationals living abroad, they began to establish the ‘Korean National Association.’ Third, Koreans in Cuba established four local chapters of the Korean National Association to support the independence movement and provide national education. Fourth, the main activities of the ‘Korean National Association’ included supporting the Shanghai Provisional Government, supporting the activities of ethnic groups, supporting the Provisional Government including the formation of the Korean Association in Cuba, defending the National Association, ensuring the stability of compatriots in Cuba, promoting recognition of the independent nation of Korea, and raising funds for independence. In conclusion, it was revealed that Koreans in Cuba established a local chapter of the Korean National Association in the Americas and worked to build a foundation for the lives of Koreans and the independence movement by establishing a local national center, church, and school.

이 연구는 디아스포라의 관점에서 쿠바 한인의 ‘대한인국민회’ 조직화 과정과 독립운동 활동을 살펴보는 데 있다. 국가 없는 디아스포라의 관점에서 쿠바 한인 1 세대의 독립운동 활동에 초점을 두었다. 연구 방법은 미국 샌프란시스코에 총회본 부를 둔 대한인국민회의 기관지 ‘신한민보’의 보도자료를 중심으로 분석하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 쿠바 한인 이주는 1921년 3월 멕시코 유카탄에서 쿠바 마나티 사탕수수 농장으로 이주하면서 시작되었고 멕시코에서 대한인국민회 16년 활동은 쿠바에 서 대한인국민회 조직화에 크게 도움이 되었다. 둘째, 쿠바 한인들은 새로운 일자 리를 찾아 마나티에서 마탄자스로 이동하게 되었는데 마탄자스 거주 한인들을 일 본 영사관에서 일본 재외국민으로 등록하도록 강제하자 대한인국민회 지방회를 설립하기 시작했다. 셋째, 쿠바 한인은 ‘대한인국민회’ 지방회를 총 4곳이 설립하 여 독립운동을 지원하거나 민족 교육을 시행하였다. 넷째, 쿠바 한인의 ‘대한인국 민회’의 주요 활동은 회장을 중심으로 대한민국 임시정부 지원, 북미지역 국민회 와 연대, 쿠바동포 권리보장, 한국 독립 승인 외교선전 활동, 독립 후원금 자금모 금 활동 등을 전개하였다. 결론적으로 쿠바 한인은 나라없는 디아스포라로서 어려운 상황 속에서도 국민 회 회관, 교회, 학교를 설립하고 한인들의 권익 보호와 한인들의 단합, 독립운동 의 기반을 구축하기 위해 힘쓴 것으로 나타났다. 특히 ‘대한인국민회’ 지방회를 설 립하여 독립운동을 지원하기 위해 국민회 의무금과 인구세를 비롯하여 광복비, 의 연금 등 독립운동 기금 등을 모금하여 한국의 독립에 크게 기여하였다.
