This study commemorates the 20th anniversary of the Korean Society for the Anthropology of Sport (KSAS) by exploring its achievements and future directions in sports research. Modern sports research must transcend the analysis of physical activities to encompass complex social and cultural contexts. Drawing on the philosophical principles of The Doctrine of the Mean (Zhongyong), this study applies the concepts of sincerity (Cheng), the Way (Dao), benevolence (Ren), and wisdom (Zhi) to emphasize human-centered diversity and harmony. Cheng signifies the researcher’s commitment to authenticity and the accurate reflection of participants’ experiences, while Ren underscores the protection and care for human dignity. Zhi highlights the importance of insightful inquiry into diverse contexts. This study suggests that sports research should evolve to contribute to social integration and equity. By doing so, KSAS can fulfill its social responsibilities and grow as an inclusive academic organization that fosters a better society.

본 연구는 스포츠인류학회의 창립 20주년을 기념하며 스포츠 연구의 성과와 미래 방향성을 모색한 연구이다. 현대 스포츠 연구는 단순히 신 체 활동을 분석하는 데 그치지 않고 복잡한 사회적, 문화적 맥락을 포괄 해야 한다. 이에 본 연구는 중용의 철학적 원칙을 바탕으로 성(誠), 도 (道), 인(仁), 지(知)의 개념을 스포츠 연구에 적용하여 인간 중심적 다양 성과 조화를 강조한다. 성(誠)은 연구자가 진정성 있게 연구 대상의 경험 을 반영하는 태도를 의미한다. 인(仁)은 인간 존엄성과 권리를 보호하는 윤리적 책임을 강조한다. 지(知)는 다양한 사회적, 문화적 맥락을 지혜롭 게 탐구하고 정확한 결론을 도출하는 과정이다. 이러한 덕목들이 조화를 이룰 때 스포츠 연구는 사회적 정의와 형평성 증진에 기여할 수 있다. 특히 장애인 스포츠나 성차별 문제를 다루는 연구는 인과 지의 균형을 통해 실질적 변화를 이끌 수 있다. 이를 통해 스포츠인류학회는 앞으로 사회적 통합과 협력을 증진하는 포괄적 학술 단체로 성장할 수 있음을 논의한다.
