I try to examine whether the Korean church can establish itself as a moral agent that can provide an alternative way of life by reading the distorted social relations and social evil structures while achieving public good in society. To this end, I want to critically reflect on fundamentalism within the Korean church by examining the problems of privatizing truth in the name of protecting truth, the problems of wielding power and authority by securing the legitimacy of one’s group through privatized truth, and the problems of not acknowledging the possibility of one’s own error and forming an hostile relationship with the world. In order to overcome the ethical problems of Christian fundamentalism, the church as a community of faith has the task of recognizing the authority of the Bible as a power for change. I also point out that the church should position itself as a moral agent of performative truth-practice and be interested in the work of reestablishing its relationship with the world. To support this work, it is necessary to newly understand the universal experience of God that is emphasized by the mysticism tradition that goes beyond doctrinalized theology. The complete union with the absolute Other, that is, not an objectified life in the world, but an event where the subject and subjects meet together, will serve as the basis for gaining a critical perspective on the distorted relationships in society. In addition, in order to go beyond Christian fundamentalism, which functions as a modern subject that seeks to control the lives of others, I try to seek an understanding of the relationship with the world, and emphasize that the place of life where the realm of faith and the realm of reason overlap is the place where God's love and justice are specifically realized in this world. It is needed to understand the responsible conception of reality and human nature not simply as sinfulness, but as creativity as a moral agent, and to understand that the church itself, as a community of faith, is a moral agent that pursues a peaceful life as a social ethics and a spiritual movement. This is to reveal that a community of faith is not a community that claims doctrinal truth, but a community that performs truth. Attempts to go beyond Christian fundamentalism will ultimately meet in the direction of realizing basic human values such as freedom, equality, and justice. It cannot be argued that the communal effort to realize basic human values is unique only to Christianity, but the motivation for its communal practice can be said to be Christian. Beyond the absolute and closed claim to truth, the Korean church as a community of faith must move toward a communal practice toward a more humane life through the strong motivation of faith.

한국교회가 사회에서 공공선을 이루며 왜곡된 사회적 관계와 사회적 악의 구조를 읽어냄으로써, 하나의 대안적 삶의 방식을 제공할 수 있는 도덕적 주체로 자리매김할 수 있을지 살펴보고자한다. 이를 위해서 한국교회 내 근본주의를 비판적으로 성찰함 으로써, 진리를 수호한다는 명분으로 진리를 사유화하는 문제, 사유화한 진리를 통해 자신이 속한 집단의 정당성을 확보하여 힘과 권력을 휘두르는 문제, 그리고 자기오류 의 가능성을 인정하지 않고 세상과 적대적 관계를 맺는 문제를 살피고자한다. 기독교 근본주의의 윤리적 문제를 극복하기 위해서, 신앙공동체로서의 교회는 성서의 권위를 새롭게 이해하여 변화의 힘으로서 갖는 권위를 인식할 과제를 갖는다. 또한 수행적 진리의 실천 주체로서 교회가 자리매김하여야 하며, 세계와의 관계를 새롭게 재설정 하는 작업에 관심해야 함을 지적하고자 한다. 이러한 작업을 뒷받침하기 위해, 교리화 된 신학을 넘어서는 신비주의 영성전통이 강조하는 보편적 하나님 경험을 새롭게 이 해할 필요가 있다. 절대 타자와의 온전한 연합, 즉 세상에서 대상화된 삶이 아니라 주 체와 주체가 만나는 사건을 통해서, 사회의 왜곡된 관계들에 대한 비판적 시각을 얻 을 수 있는 근거가 될 것이다. 또한 타자의 삶을 통제하고자 하는 근대적 주체로서 기능하는 기독교 근본주의를 넘어서기 위해 세상과의 상호관계적 이해를 추구하고, 신앙의 영역과 이성의 영역이 중첩된 삶의 자리가 이 세상에서 하나님의 사랑과 정의 를 구체적으로 실현할 곳임을 강조한다. 책임적 현실 인식과 인간의 본성을 단순히 죄성으로만 강조하는 것이 아니라 도덕적 주체로서의 창조성으로 이해하고, 신앙공동 체인 교회 자체가 사회윤리이자 하나의 영적 운동으로서 평화적 삶을 추구하는 주체 임을 이해하고자 하였다. 이는 신앙공동체가 교리화된 진리 주장의 공동체가 아니라 진리를 수행하는 공동체임을 드러내려는 것이다. 기독교 근본주의를 넘어가고자 하는 시도들은 결국 자유와 평등과 정의와 같은 인간의 기본가치를 실현하고자 하는 방향 에서 함께 만나게 될 것이다. 인간의 기본가치 실현을 위한 공동의 노력이 기독교만 의 고유한 것이라 주장할 수는 없을 것이지만, 그 실천의 동기는 기독교적이라 할 수 있다. 절대적이고 폐쇄적인 진리주장을 넘어서서 신앙공동체로서의 한국교회가 믿음 의 강력한 동기를 통해서 보다 인간다운 삶을 향한 공동의 실천으로 나아가야 할 것이다.
