The theme of this paper is to carefully examine the life of Rev. Jeong Yong-Cheol of The Presbyterian Church in the Republic of Korea, his practical pilgrimage, and especially his appearance as a preacher. Rev. Jeong Yong-Cheol’s practical ministry was, in a word, a pilgrimage. And hymns were always deeply embedded in his pilgrimage. He was a pilgrim who sang hymns. From Seondolbawi Village to Gamnamugol, through his elementary school days, his dream of going to college was dashed and he became a private school teacher, after marriage, he was a wandering student, and until 1945 Liberation. And through his seminary days, he served in rural ministry for 6 years, served in Seoul for 16 years, served as an immigrant pastor for 28 years, and even after retirement, he continued his wandering ministry. He confesses that he has a wandering life. However, isn’t that the mysterious providence of God who leads the universe, history, and life? Aren’t all our lives pilgrims of the kingdom of God seeking their hometown? Rev. Jeong Yong-Cheol’s ministry practice was also a series of such pilgrimages. However, he was not lonely. This was because his pilgrimage was always a spiritual pilgrimage that he walked beautifully step by step as a pilgrim who sang hymns that everyone envied. The method of this paper is to first examine Rev. Jeong Yong-Cheol’s ministry practice and pastoral theology as a pilgrim who sang hymns. It will cover Rev. Jeong Yong-Cheol’s life and ministry practice under the subtitles of Seondolbawi, Beyond That Longing (1918-1946), Shinam, That Firm Rock (1947-1969), and Interim Tack, Interim Tack, Pilgrim Soul Healer (1970-2018). Next, this paper will examine Rev. Jeong Yong-Cheol’s preaching criticism as a harmony of heaven and earth. Here, I would like to carefully critique Rev. Jeong Yong-Cheol’s sermons, focusing on three precious sermons that he personally copied and sent me from his sermon collection published in the United States, the sermon collection that I obtained by calling Rev. Kim Seong-Ho of Shinam Church as he had said, and the traces of his sermons that permeate the Janggong Library. When critiquing Rev. Jeong Yong-Cheol’s sermons, I will focus on him from the perspectives of a biblical preacher, an evangelical preacher, a theological preacher, a situational preacher, a performing preacher, a holistic preacher, and a theonomical preacher. In developing the argument of this paper, the essence and standards of sermon critique by Karl Barth and Rudolf Bohren, giants of the Reformed theology, will serve as a valuable antenna. Through this paper, I would like to carefully introduce Rev. Jeong Yong-Cheol with the intention of digging up the hidden treasures of our Korean church. Rev. Jeong Yong-Cheol truly saw the harmony between heaven and earth. And he devoted his life to the practice of ministry to realize that harmonious church community on this earth. With beautiful hymns and heaven-embracing sermons.

이 논문의 주제는 한국기독교장로회 정용철 목사가 어떤 삶을 살아왔고, 교역실천 적인 순례는 어떠하였으며, 특히 그의 설교가로서 면모는 어떠한지를 조심스레 살펴 보는 데 있다. 영하 정용철 목사의 교역실천은 한마디로 순례하는 교역실천이었다. 그 리고 그 순례에는 늘 찬송이 깊이 자리하고 있었다. 그는 찬송하는 순례자였다. 선돌 바위 마을에서 감나무골로, 보통학교 시절을 지나, 진학의 꿈이 무산되고 사립학교 접 장생활로, 결혼 후에도 떠돌이 학생시절을 지나, 해방을 맞기까지. 그리고 신학교 시 절을 지나, 농촌목회 6년, 서울목회 16년, 이민목회 28년, 그러고 나서도 은퇴 후 계속 되는 떠돌이 목회. 그는 이렇게 스스로를 떠돌이 인생이라고 고백한다. 그러나 그것이 야말로 우주와 역사와 인생을 이끌어 가시는 하나님의 오묘한 섭리가 아니었을까. 우 리 인생이 다 본향을 찾아가는 하나님 나라의 순례자들이 아니런가. 정용철 목사의 교역실천도 그런 순례의 연속이었다. 그러나 그는 외롭지 않았다. 늘 그 순례가 만인 이 부러워할 찬송하는 순례자로서 한 걸음 한 걸음 아름답게 걸어간 영혼의 순례였기 때문이다. 이 논문의 방법은 먼저, 찬송하는 순례자로서 정용철 목사의 교역실천과 목 회신학을 살펴볼 것이다. 선돌바위, 그 그리움을 넘어(1918-1946), 신암, 그 굳건한 바 위(1947-1969), 땜빵, 땜빵, 순례하는 영혼의 치유자(1970-2018)라는 소제목으로 정용 철 목사의 삶과 교역실천을 다룰 것이다. 그다음에는 하늘과 땅의 조화로서 정용철 목사의 설교비평을 살펴볼 것이다. 여기서는 그분이 미국에서 펴내신 설교집 가운데 직접 복사하여 보내주신 3편의 소중한 설교문과, 그분 말씀대로 신암교회 김성호 목 사님께 전화를 드려 얻게 된 설교집과, 그리고 장공도서관에 스며있는 그분의 설교 흔적들을 중심으로, 정용철 목사의 설교들을 조심스럽게 비평해 보고자 한다. 연구자 는 정용철 목사에 대한 설교비평을 할 때, 이분을 성경적인 설교자, 복음적인 설교자, 신학적인 설교자, 상황적인 설교자, 실연적인 설교자, 전인적인 설교자, 신율적인 설교 자라는 관점에서 집중적으로 다룰 것이다. 이 논문의 논지를 펼쳐가는 데는 종교개혁 신학의 거목인 칼 바르트와 루돌프 보렌이 말하는 설교비평의 본질과 기준이 소중한 안테나 역할을 할 것이다. 연구자는 이 논문을 통하여, 우리 한국교회의 숨은 보화를 캐내는 심정으로 정용철 목사를 조심스럽게 소개해 보려고 한다. 정용철 목사는 과연 하늘과 땅의 조화를 보았다. 그리고 그 조화로운 교회 공동체를 이 땅에 실현하기 위 하여 교역실천의 생을 불태웠다. 아름다운 찬송가로, 그리고 하늘을 품은 설교로.
