The purpose of this study is to describe Christian spirituality and the shadow in relation to the symbolism of King Kong in sand play therapy. To this end, this study aims to describe the Jungian concept of shadow in Christian spirituality through a literature review, and to examine the shadow realm that is encountered and integrated in the process of self-realization through the meaning of King Kong through the medium of art and the symbolism in the case of sand play therapy. While it is not easy to accept the concept of shadow in Christian spirituality, as it is the essence of Jesus' character, the process of accepting the shadow is essential to the process of self-realization, in which human beings let go of the ego and move toward the self. Christian spirituality involves a process of self-realization, so the integration of one's shadow and moving toward self-realization is an important inflection point in the journey of growth. Symbols in sandplay therapy are mental representations that serve as a means of making conscious what exists in the unconscious and expanding awareness. Symbols can intuitively reveal the human unconscious, have a healing function, and help us expand our thinking and shift our perceptions. Symbols play an important role in sandplay therapy by bringing the unconscious into consciousness and facilitating healing and transformation through emotions, intuition, and feelings, and we will explore the symbolism of King Kong in this case study. King Kong is a combination of the words King and Kong, which symbolizes the opposing qualities within us through contrasting images. In literature and film, King Kong represents the shadow, and nurturing and feminine images are often seen as a necessary condition for self-actualization that embraces the shadow. Similarly, in sandplay therapy, when a client encounters and embraces his or her shadow on the path to self-actualization, the appearance of the King Kong symbol can be a call to action that signals an inevitable event in the process of self-actualization. In the moment of understanding King Kong, there may be a resonance in the space and time of counseling that allows the counselor to understand the client's journey of self-actualization. Thus, this paper explores the shadows of Christian spirituality and Jungian spirituality, examines the symbolic meanings of King Kong in literature, film, and art, and describes the role of the King Kong symbol in the process of self-actualization in sandplay therapy.

본 연구의 목적은 문헌 고찰을 통해 기독교 영성에서 바라보는 융의 그림자 개념 을 기술하고, 킹콩이 예술 매체를 통해 드러나는 의미와 모래놀이치료 사례에서 나타 난 상징을 통해 자기실현의 과정에서 조우하고 통합하는 그림자 영역을 살펴보는 것 이다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 기독교 영성과 그림자를 모래놀이치료에서 나타난 킹 콩의 상징을 중심으로 기술하고자 한다. 기독교 영성이 예수님의 성정을 담고 있는 것인만큼 그림자 개념을 받아들이는 것이 쉬운 일은 아니지만 인간이 자아(ego)를 내 려놓고 자기(self)를 향해 나가는 자기실현의 과정에서 그림자를 수용하는 과정은 필 수불가결하다. 결코 인간이 빛이 될 수는 없지만 빛 가운데로 나가기 위해 필연적으 로 자신의 그림자 영역을 자각하고 수용해야 할 필요가 있다. 즉 기독교 영성은 자기 실현의 과정을 포함하기에 인간이 자신의 그림자를 통합하고 자기실현의 길로 나아가 는 것은 성장의 여정에서 중요한 변곡점을 만든다. 모래놀이치료에서의 상징은 정신 적 표상으로 무의식에 존재하는 것을 의식화하고 자각을 확장하는 수단이 된다. 상징은 인간의 무의식을 직관적으로 드러내거나 치유의 기능이 있고, 사고 확장과 인식 전환에도 도움이 된다. 상징은 무의식을 의식화하고 감정, 직관, 정서를 통해 치유와 변화를 촉진하며, 모래놀이치료에서 중요한 역할을 하는데, 사례에 나타난 킹콩의 그 림자 상징을 살펴볼 것이다. 킹콩은 단어의 조합부터가 King과 Kong의 결합으로 이 루어져 있어서 대비되는 이미지로 내면의 상반된 특성을 수반한다. 킹콩은 문학작품 및 영화 속에서 그림자를 표상하고, 그림자를 수용하는 자기실현의 길로 나아갈 때 양육 및 여성적 이미지가 필요충분조건으로 나타나기도 한다. 모래놀이치료 과정에서 내담자가 자신의 그림자를 조우하고 수용할 때, 킹콩 상징이 나타나는 경우 자기실현 으로 향하기 위한 필연적인 사건이 일어났음을 알리는 호출이 될 수 있다. 킹콩을 이 해하는 순간 상담이라는 시공간에서 상담자는 내담자의 자기실현 여정을 이해하는 공 명이 일어날 수 있을 것이다. 이처럼 본 연구는 기독교 영성과 융의 그림자를 탐색하고 킹콩이 문학이나 영화 등 예술 속에서 드러나는 상징적 의미를 살펴보고, 모래놀이치료 작품 속 자기실현의 과정에서 킹콩의 상징이 어떤 역할을 하는지 기술하고자 한다.
