Preaching has developed in connection with various academic disciplines both within and outside Christianity. As part of this engagement, this study seeks to engage in dialogue with Kevin Vanhoozer – particularly focusing on his book, The Drama of Doctrine - to gain new insights into preaching and practical outcomes necessary for preaching ministry. The purpose of The Drama of Doctrine is to overcome the negative perceptions and indifference toward doctrine. He argues that these negative attitudes do not stem from doctrine itself but from misunderstandings and misremembering of doctrine. Therefore, if doctrine is newly understood, such problems can be overcome. To achieve a new understanding of Christian doctrine and theology, Vanhoozer adopts dramatic theory. He employs this methodology because he believes that the subject of theology should determine its methodological approach. Since the central subject of theology is the Triune God who speaks and acts theology should also focus on speaking and acting. Dramatic theory provides a suitable framework for such a theology, as drama is fundamentally composed of speech and action. Furthermore, Vanhoozer views doctrine as an instructive tool that enables Christians who live out the Scriptures to correctly understand the Bible. His understanding of doctrine relates to George Lindbeck’s “cultural-linguistic” approach to doctrine. However, while Lindbeck emphasizes the primacy of the church community in understanding doctrine, Vanhoozer underscores the supremacy of the canon of Scripture and the Triune God who continues to speak and act through the Bible. This study will examine how Vanhoozer, through dramatic theory, understands the Triune God, Scripture, the church, doctrine, and the roles of theologians and pastors. It will then explore the homiletical implications of these theological themes. First, this study will discuss the ongoing significance of doctrine in Christian preaching and how preachers should define it. Second, it will examine the Triune God as the one who speaks and acts, revealing Himself and transforming lives through preaching. Third, it will consider the homiletical implications of a dramatic understanding of Scripture, emphasizing that the Bible is not merely a record of past events but God's word that continues to create events through its reading and proclamation. The Bible not only communicates something to us but also calls us to act. Fourth, this study will highlight that the preacher is both a pastor and a theologian. Preaching and theology are not mutually exclusive but interdependent. Finally, it will address the issue of authority in preaching. The authority of preaching is given and presupposed, and it comes from God who continues to speak and act through preaching.

설교는 기독교 내외의 다양한 학문과 관계를 맺으며 발전해왔다. 이런 활동의 일 환으로 본 연구는 케빈 밴후저를 대화상대로 삼아 – 특별히 그의 저서 『교리의 드 라마』를 중심으로 - 설교에 대한 새로운 통찰과 설교 활동에 필요한 실천적인 열매 를 얻고자 한다. 밴후저가 『교리의 드라마』를 집필한 동기는 교리에 대한 사람들의 부정적인 생각과 무관심을 극복하기 위해서이다. 그는 교리에 대한 부정적인 생각과 무관심은 교리로부터 기인한 것이 아니라 교리에 대한 잘못된 이해와 기억에서 연유 된 것이라고 주장한다. 따라서 교리를 새롭게 이해할 수 있다면 그와 같은 문제를 극 복할 수 있다는 것이다. 기독교 교리와 신학에 대한 새로운 이해를 위해 밴후저는 드 라마 이론을 차용한다. 그가 드라마 이론을 자신의 방법론으로 사용하는 이유는 신학 의 주제가 신학적인 방법론을 결정해야 한다는 믿음 때문이다. 그는 신학의 주제인 성삼위 하나님을 말씀하시고 행동하는 분으로 이해한다. 따라서 하나님을 주제로 하 는 신학 역시 말하기와 행동하기에 초점을 맞추어야 한다. 드라마 이론은 말과 행동 에 초점을 맞추는 신학에 필요한 틀을 제공할 수 있는데 드라마의 주된 구성 요소가 말하기와 행동하기이기 때문이다. 또한 밴후저는 교리를 성경 말씀을 행하는 그리스 도인들이 성경을 잘 이해할 수 있는 지시적 도구로 이해한다. 그와 같은 교리 이해는 조지 린드벡의 ‘문화-언어적’ 교리 이해와 관련이 있다. 그러나 린드벡이 교리 이해에 있어서 교회 공동체의 우위를 주장하는 것과는 달리 밴후저는 교리 이해에 있어서 정 경으로서의 성경의 우위성과 성경을 통해 지금도 말씀하시고 행동하시는 성삼위 하나 님을 강조한다. 본 논문에서는 밴후저가 드라마 이론을 통해 성삼위 하나님, 성경, 교 회, 교리, 신학자와 목회자의 역할에 대해 어떻게 이해하고 있는지를 살펴본 후에 그 와 같은 신학적 주제들이 설교학적으로 어떤 함의를 가지는지를 살펴볼 것이다. 첫째, 기독교 설교에서 교리가 여전히 중요하며 설교자들이 교리를 어떻게 정의해야 할 것 인가를 논의할 것이다. 둘째, 성삼위 하나님은 말씀하시고 행동하시는 분이시며 지금 도 설교를 통해 자신을 드러내시고 사람들의 삶을 변화시키시는 분임을 살펴볼 것이 다. 셋째, 드라마적 성경 이해가 설교학적으로 갖는 함의는 성경이 단순히 과거의 사 건의 기록이 아니라 지금도 그것을 읽고, 그것에 근거해 행해지는 설교를 통해 사건 을 일으키는 하나님의 말씀이라는 것을 짚어볼 것이다. 성경은 우리에게 무엇인가를 말하는 동시에 무엇인가를 행하도록 요구하는 하나님의 말씀이다. 넷째, 설교자는 목 회자인 동시에 신학자임을 살펴볼 것이다. 설교와 신학은 상호 배타적인 것이 아니라 상호 의존적인 것이다. 마지막으로 설교에 있어서 권위의 문제를 다룰 것이다. 설교의 권위는 주어진 권위요, 전제된 권위이다. 그 권위의 주체는 설교를 통해 지금도 말씀 하시고 행동하시는 하나님이다.
