The purpose of this study was to explore the significance and value of providing elementary students with autonomous choices in math classes and to develop an analytical framework for evaluating elementary math classes from the perspective of using choice strategies. Additionally, relevant U.S. cases were examined to draw implications for future math classrooms. Additionally, foreign cases were investigated to derive implications for future math classrooms. Through theoretical review, the affective and cognitive benefits of granting students choice in math teaching and learning situations were identified, and eight elements of choice that could be provided to students were extracted. Based on these criteria, an analysis of exemplary elementary math class videos revealed that in domestic math classes, learners are primarily given choices regarding problem-solving methods and task levels, but other types of choices are rarely utilized. Consequently, implications for future mathematics classes were proposed by referring to American cases.

이 연구의 목적은 초등수학수업에서 학생들에게 자율적 선택권을 제공하는 것의 의미와 가치를 알아보고, 선택 전략 활용 관점에서 초등수학수업을 평가할 수 있는 분석틀을 개발하고자 하였다. 또한 관련된 미국 사례를 추가로 조사하여 미래 수학 교실을 위한 시사점을 이끌어 내고자 하였다. 이론적 고찰을 통해 수학 교수학습 상황에서 학생들에게 선택권을 부여하는 것의 정의적・인지적 장점을 확인하였으 며, 학생들에게 제공할 수 있는 선택 요소 8개를 추출하였다. 이를 기준으로 에듀 넷 티클리어에 탑재된 초등우수수업 동영상 10편을 분석한 결과, 수준별 수업을 지 향했던 교육과정 시기의 국내 수학수업에서는 주로 문제해결 방법과 과제수준 선 택권을 학습자에게 제공하는 것으로 나타났으나, 그 외의 선택권 사용은 찾아보기 어려웠다. 이에 미국 사례를 참고하여 미래 수학교실을 위한 시사점을 제안하였다.
