The objective of this study is to elucidate the correlation between Jonathan Edwards’ preaching and revival by conducting a thorough analysis of his sermons and historical writings of revival, with the intention of assisting Korean church preachers in reclaiming authentic revival preaching. This study aims to facilitate the reinterpretation of historical revivals within the context of contemporary preaching and to demonstrate how preaching can function as catalysts for new revivals. Initially, the study examines Edwards’ role in the Great Awakening, followed by a detailed analysis of his sermons from a perspective of revival, highlighting their distinctive features. Subsequently, the discussion addresses the concept of the ‘sense of the heart’as the inception of revival and explores its applicability to the Korean church. Edwards systematically theologized and doctrinalized the genuine experience of revival within his sermons, effectively communicating it to his audience, and actualized historical revival events and experiences within his preaching to resonate in the present. Through these endeavors, his preaching served as instrumental tools in promoting new revivals. Edwards’ legacy provided a biblical framework for revival movements across various epochs. Consequently, this research aims to offer precise directions and applications for preaching for the Korean church revival.

본 논문의 목적은 한국교회 설교자들이 참된 부흥 설교를 회복하기 위하여 부흥에 관한 조나단 에드워즈의 설교와 역사적 기록을 분석하 여, 에드워즈의 설교와 부흥과의 상관관계를 밝히는 데 있다. 이런 논 의는 역사적 부흥이 오늘의 설교 현실에서 어떤 방식으로 재해석되며, 설교가 어떻게 새로운 부흥을 촉진하는 도구로 사용되는지 이해하는 데 도움을 줄 것이다. 먼저 대각성 운동에서의 에드워즈의 역할을 살펴 보고, 부흥의 관점에서 에드워즈의 설교를 분석하여 그 설교의 특징들 을 살펴본다. 그런 다음 부흥의 출발점인‘마음의 감각’에 대해서 논의 하며, 한국교회에 대한 적용점을 살펴볼 것이다. 에드워즈는 부흥에 대 한 참된 경험을 설교 안에서 신학화·교리화하여 청중에게 전달했으 며, 역사적 부흥이 설교 안에서 공명하도록 부흥사건과 경험을 설교에 서 현재화했다. 이런 노력으로 그의 설교는 새로운 부흥을 촉진하는 도 구적 역할을 감당했다. 에드워즈의 이러한 유산은 시대마다 일어나는 부흥 운동에 성경적 기준틀을 제공했다. 따라서 본 연구는 한국교회 부흥 설교에 올바른 방향과 적용점들을 제공할 것이다.
