This study examines Paul’s rhetorical approach in 1 Corinthians 1-2, emphasizing how the essence of the gospel─God’s wisdom and power revealed through the cross─is effectively communicated through the organic integration of sermon content and delivery. Paul’s preaching goes beyond merely proclaiming the event of the cross; it persuasively unveils God’s salvific plan and transcendent wisdom. To achieve this aim, the study analyzes Paul’s argumentative structure and rhetorical strategies, exploring their homiletical implications for contemporary preaching. In his letter to the Corinthian church, Paul centers his message on “the word of the cross,” redefining it as divine wisdom in contrast to human wisdom. His main assertion, “Christ is the wisdom of God,” underscores the revelation of God’s power through the crucified Christ. This study specifically employs the concept of verbal aspect─focusing on how actions or discourses are viewed or explained by the author rather than tied to specific time frames─to analyze shifts in focus and points of emphasis within Paul’s argumentation. It examines the homiletical priorities reflected in 1 Corinthians 1:18-23 and 2:1-5, highlighting how Paul’s rhetorical strategies effectively underscore key theological themes. Additionally, the study explores Paul’s use of rhetorical techniques, particularly stylistic climax, demonstrating how he employs rhetorical forms to enhance and emphasize his argumentation. In conclusion, this research demonstrates that Paul, as a preacher, not only proclaims the crucified Christ but also embodies God’s wisdom─ distinct from human wisdom─through his strategic rhetorical approach. This analysis underscores that Paul’s preaching relies not on human eloquence but on God’s power and the work of the Spirit. By examining the integration of theological content and delivery in Paul’s preaching, this study contributes to contemporary homiletical discourse, offering valuable insights into the practice of preaching that establishes Christ as its foundational content and embodies the humility of the cross in its delivery.
