Yeats’s later poetry embodies profound philosophical reflections on life, death, and the immortality of art, closely linked to Eastern philosophy, particularly the ideas of Zhuangzi. Zhuangzi emphasized the importance of following the natural flow, embracing wu wei (non-action) and tranquility while transcending the boundaries of life and death. It seems that Yeats drew significant inspiration from this philosophy, which helped him expand his poetic vision. This influence is particularly evident in “Sailing to Byzantium” and “Lapis Lazuli”. This study analyzes how these two poems reflect Zhuangzi’s philosophy and explore how Yeats integrated Eastern and Western thought to express artistic transcendence.
