Recently, mental health issues among college students have been on the rise, a trend closely associated with the increase in non-face-to-face activities and SNS usage. This study utilized 2021 data from the Korea Media Panel to explore the effects of SNS usage time and behaviors on self-esteem and depression in a sample of 615 college students through path analysis. The findings confirmed that comparative and competitive behaviors on SNS significantly mediate the relationship between self-esteem and depression. This study is expected to enhance understanding of how SNS usage impacts college students' psychological well-being, promote healthier SNS practices, and offer insights into addressing psychological challenges.
