Since the COVID-19 pandemic, smartphone addiction among adolescents has been on the rise, but research on intervention programs for this issue is rare. The present study conducted a scoping review to identify the resent trends of various intervention methods for treating smartphone addiction among adolescents in South Korea over the past 10 years. The analysis was conducted according to the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) guidelines, and a total of 15 studies were selected. The results showed that intervention research had been consistently conducted until 2019, but no such studies were found after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The intervention programs were primarily group therapy and mostly targeted middle school students. The outcome variables assessed various aspects, including cognitive, emotional, social, and family dimensions of adolescents. We propose the urgent need for the development and research of interventions addressing adolescent smartphone addiction post-COVID-19.
