In the traditional society, those who come of age were recognized as adults through Kwan-Rye, Kye-Rye. In the process of preparing and proceeding with solemn rituals, the direction of external and internal maturity was suggested. It led to inner change through changes in appearance, reminded us that my ancestors and I continue in the present, made it possible to set a direction of life by using virtuous adults as an example, and made it possible to receive social recognition. These ritual procedures contained a cultural consciousness to commemorate human mental and physical growth as sacred. Therefore, through the process of telling the shrine and changing clothes several times, it provided an opportunity for a new awareness of the family and social order and at the same time served as the basis for ethics and etiquette education. Traditional coming-of-age rituals became an opportunity to be recognized as adults in family and society through rituals, and it became a turning point to change one's mind and behavior in a grown-up manner. Therefore, even in modern society, traditional coming-of-age rituals can serve as a gateway for adolescents who are moving toward adulthood to recognize correct ethics, etiquette education, and adult rights, duties, and responsibilities. This is because tradition and life have changed, but the basic foundation that an adult must have has not changed. Currently, most of the forms and procedures of coming-of-age rituals performed in municipal and provincial offices, hyanggyo, cultural centers, and high schools are implemented in the form of tradition. However, education prior to the ritual is insufficient. Before you become the main character of the ritual and are congratulated by your family and friends, education that allows you to take pride in yourself and act like an adult should be preceded. Therefore, this thesis was written for the purpose of proposing an 'adult education' program with traditional adult rituals by examining the ethical implications contained in the procedures of the customs of traditional adult rituals based on the necessity of prior education on the basic spirit of raising the adult rituals.

전통사회에서는 성년이 되는 자에게 관례·계례를 통해 어른으로 인정해주었다. 엄숙한 의례를 준비하는 과정과 진행 과정에서 외적·내적 성숙을 유도하고 나아갈 방향을 제시하였다. 외형의 변화로 내면의 변화를 이끌고 조상과 나의 현재가 이어짐을 일깨웠으며, 덕망이 있는 어른을 모범으로 삼아 삶의 방향성을 설정할 수 있게 하고 사회적 인정을 받을 수 있게 하였다. 이러한 의례절차에는 인간의 정신적·신체적 성장을 신성하게 여겨 이것을 기념하기 위한 문화적 의식이 담겨 있었다. 때문에 사당에 고하고 옷을 여러 번 갈아입는 절차를 통하여 집안과 사회질서에 대해 새로운 인식의 계기를 마련함과 동시에 윤리교육과 예절교육의 바탕으로 삼았다. 전통 성년례는 의례를 통해 가족과 사회에서 어른으로 인정받는 계기가 되고, 자신의 마음가짐과 행동을 어른스럽게 변화시키는 전환점이 되었다. 그러므로 현대사회에서도 성인으로 나아가는 청소년에게 올바른 윤리관, 예절교육, 성인의 권리와 의무, 책임을 인식할 수 있는 관문의 역할을 전통 성년례가 담당할 수 있을 것이다. 전통과 생활 모습은 달라졌으나 성인이 되는 자가 가져야 하는 기본적인 바탕은 바뀌지 않았기 떄문이다. 현재 대부분의 시도구청과 향교, 문화원, 고등학교에서 행해지는 성년례의 형식과 절차는 전통의 형식을 따라 시행되고 있다. 그러나 의례 진행에 앞선 교육은 부족한 실정이다. 자신이 의례의 주인공이 되어 가족과 친구들에게 축하를 받는 자리 이전에 자신에 대한 자부심을 가지고 성인다운 마음가짐과 행동을 할 수 있는 교육이 선행되어야 한다. 이에 본 논문은 성년례를 올리는 기본 정신에 대한 사전교육의 필요성을 바탕으로 전통 성년례인 관례의 절차에 담긴 윤리적 의미를 고찰하여, 전통 성년례와 함께하는 ‘성인되기 교육’ 프로그램을 제안할 목적으로 작성되었다.
