This paper focuses on the mansi of Choi Yeon to examine how Choi Yeon, as a scholar-official who had direct interactions with his contemporary Shim Eon-gwang, evaluated him, in contrast to later literati. The aim is to gain a more multidimensional understanding of Shim Eon-gwang through this analysis. Shim Eon-gwang and Choi Yeon, both hailing from Gangneung, distinguished themselves through their literary talents and held significant literary and administrative positions in the court. They shared many similarities, including being selected as diplomats due to their exceptional literary abilities and having experience in receiving envoys from the Ming Dynasty. In addition, the political event that involved drawing Kim An-ro into the political arena led to predominantly negative evaluations of Shim Eon-gwang at the time. Despite this, Choi Yeon composed mansi for Shim Eon-gwang, and these eight pieces of mansi are currently the only known literary works dedicated to him. Although the number of mansi is limited, their value is significant as they provide a rare insight into how Choi Yeon, a contemporary literary figure rather than a later one, viewed Shim Eon-gwang. In particular, while there are differences in the emotions expressed in each of the eight pieces of mansi, Choi Yeon focuses on describing Shim Eon-gwang's literary competence as the central theme. Through historical anecdotes, Choi Yeon evaluates Shim Eon-gwang's talent as comparable to that of famous literary figures in Chinese history. Moreover, in three of the eight mansi, Choi Yeon directly praises Shim Eon-gwang's abilities using terms such as ‘Kweixing(奎星)’ or ‘Wenxing(文星)’, expressions that are not found in the evaluations of later literati.

본고는 최연의 만시를 중심으로 후대의 문인들과는 달리 동시대 심언 광과 직접 교류가 있었던 관료문인으로서의 최연이 심언광을 어떻게 평 가했는지를 고찰하고, 이 작업을 통해 심언광의 형상을 더 입체적으로 파 악하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 심언광과 최연은 같은 강릉 출신이면서 문장으로 두각을 나타냈으며, 모두 조정에서 문한 요직을 거쳤고, 높은 문재(文才)를 지녔기에 관반사나 종사관으로 선발되어 명사를 응대한 경력도 있다는 점에서 공통점이 많 다. 더불어 김안로를 조정에 끌어들인 정치적 사건으로 당시 심언광에 대 해서는 부정적인 평가가 주를 이루었는데, 이런 상황에서도 최연은 심언 광을 위한 만시를 지었고, 이 만시 8수가 현재까지는 심언광에 대한 유일 한 시 작품으로 확인된다. 비록 만시의 양은 많지 않지만 후대 문인이 아 닌 동시대 인물로 최연이 심언광을 어떻게 바라보았는지를 살펴볼 수 있 는 유일한 자료로서 이 만시의 가치는 높다. 특히 심언광에 대한 만시에 표현된 정서는 각각 다르지만, 모두 심언광 의 문장력을 중점적으로 묘사하고 있다는 공통점이 있다. 고사를 통해 중 국의 역사적 유명한 문인과 견줄 만한 재능이 있다고 평가했을 뿐더러 8 수 중에 3수에서 심언광을 놓고 직접 ‘규성(奎星)’이나 ‘문성(文星)’이라는 표현으로 뛰어난 문재(文才)를 지닌 문장가로서의 형상을 부각하고 있는데, 심언광을 이러한 형상으로 드러내는 것은 후대 문인의 작품에서는 찾 아볼 수 없는 것이다.
