This paper examines the publication process of The Commentary of Zuo on the Spring and Autumn Annals(春秋左氏傳) during the reign of King Jeongjo. Since the Three Kingdoms period, the Spring and Autumn Annals and its commentaries have been influential in Korea. Various editions were published from the early Joseon Dynasty. King Jeongjo sought cultural revival and political use through his publication efforts, including The commentary of Zuo. King Jeongjo provided specific editorial instructions to the civil ministers(抄啟文臣), revised the legends, and focused on selecting appropriate fonts. The commentary of Zuo was printed in two versions using wooden movable type featuring the calligraphy of Jo Yoon-hyeong and Hwang Un-jo. This editions were easier to understand than previous ones. After printing, contributors were rewarded based on their efforts. Due to the small print run, woodblock versions were also produced and distributed.
