This study examined the mediating effects of self-esteem on the relationship between spousal control perpetration and depression according to the level of adverse childhood experiences(ACE) in married women in Korea. A total of 1,920 married women aged 19-59 years with at least one ACE were categorized into low-risk, moderate-risk, and high-risk groups. The results showed that spousal control perpetration, self-esteem were significantly associated with depression and that self-esteem had a mediating effect on the relationship between spousal control perpetration and depression. The results showed that the higher the spousal control perpetration level, the lower the self-esteem and the higher the depression. These findings suggest that institutional support is needed to prevent ACE because of its effect on the dynamics of controlling spouses in marital relationships. The findings also emphasize that self-esteem recovery and customized psychological intervention programs are essential for women at high risk for ACE.

본 연구는 한국 기혼 여성의 아동기 부정적 경험(Adverse Childhood Experiences, ACE) 수준에 따른 배우자 통제 가해와 우울 간의 관계에 있어서 자존감의 매개효과를 검증하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 19세 이상 59세 미만 한국 기혼 여성 중 ACE 경험이 한 번 이상인 기혼 여성 총 1,920명을 저위험군, 중위험군, 고위험군으로 분류하였다. 연구 결과는 배우자 통제 가해와 자존감이 우울과 유의한 관련이 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 배우자 통제 가해와 우울의 관계에서 자존감의 매개효과가 분석되었다. 배우자 통제 가해 수준이 높을수록 자존감이 낮아져 우울이 증가하는 매개 경로가 확인되었다. 본 연구 결과는 ACE가 부부 관계에서 배우자를 통제 가해하는 역동에 중요한 역할을 하므로 ACE를 예방할 수 있는 제도적 지원이 필요하다는 함의를 제공한다. 또한, ACE 고위험군을 위한 자존감 회복 및 맞춤형 심리 중재 프로그램이 필수적임을 강조한다.
