This study explored the experiences of caregivers providing care services to elderly people living with HIV/AIDS(PLWHA) through in-depth interviews with 11 caregivers, analyzed using qualitative content analysis. The findings revealed several key themes: "witnessing the compounded challenges of aging and AIDS", "encountering clients who feel compelled to hide yet gradually lower their defenses", "reflecting on the meaning of caregiving", “helping clients recognize they have a support system” and "the need to prepare for the aging of PLWHA". These themes comprise 32 meaning units, five sub-themes such as “meeting the most vulnerable, those who are deeply impacted”, and an overarching theme: "working with the hope that PLWHA can grow old with dignity as members of society". Participants expressed a commitment to supporting those facing compounded challenges of illness, stigma, poverty, and aging, emphasizing the importance of clients realizing they are not alone. Based on these findings, the study suggests improving HIV/AIDS awareness, re-evaluating the value of caregiving, and developing integrated care services for vulnerable, aging PLWHA.

본 연구는 고령 취약계층 HIV/AIDS 감염인에게 돌봄서비스를 제공하는 사람들의 경험의 의미를 탐색하 기 위하여 돌봄서비스 제공자 11인을 심층면접한 자료를 내용분석 방법으로 분석하였다. 분석결과, HIV/AIDS 감염인들을 위한 돌봄서비스 경험은 ‘AIDS에 더해진 고령의 문제들을 목도함’, ‘숨겨야 하지 만 조금씩 경계를 풀어가는 모습을 접함’, ‘돌봄 자체의 의미를 생각함’, ‘나를 도와주는 사람이 있음을 인식하게 함’, ‘감염인의 고령화에 대한 대비가 필요함’ 등의 32개의 의미단위, ‘약자 중의 약자, 피폐한 사람들을 만남’을 비롯한 5개의 하위주제, ‘감염인이 사회구성원으로서 건강하게 늙어갈 수 있기를 바라 는 작은 소망으로 일해 나감’이라는 주제가 도출되었다. 연구참여자들은 질병, 낙인, 빈곤, 고령의 어려움 을 갖고 있는 감염인들을 만나면서 그들이 자신을 돕는 사람들이 있음을 인식하고 고립에서 벗어나 건강하게 늙어갈 수 있도록 하는 소망을 갖고 일하고 있다. 연구 결과를 바탕으로 HIV/AIDS에 대한 인식개선, 돌봄의 가치 재조명, 고령의 취약 감염인을 위한 통합돌봄서비스 구축을 제언하였다.
