This study examines the characteristics of Korean economics courses in Russian Central Asian universities, noting the long history of Korean studies and the context of Korean studies in Russia and Central Asia from the Cold War to the globalised present. Courses on Korean economics at Russian and Central Asian universities vary across countries and between universities. In Russia, some courses are aimed at improving Korean language skills, while others cover the entire spectrum of Korean economy and international relations, including economic development, economic cooperation between countries, technical economic terms, and economic activities such as trade and finance, while others focus on the practical rather than theoretical aspects of the Korean economy. In Central Asia, on the other hand, the terms ‘Korea’ and ‘economics’ are often included in department names and course titles, but it is sometimes difficult to determine the specific content. It is worth noting that in courses or programmes covering Korea or the Far East at universities, the Korean economy is one of the main areas of interest and acknowledged for its importance.

본 연구는 오랜 한국학 역사와 냉전 그리고 글로벌화된 오늘날에 이르기까지 러시아 중앙아시아 한국학의 배경을 주목하며, 이 지역 대학에 개설된 한국 경제 강좌의 특징을 살펴보고자 한다. 러시아 중앙 아시아 대학에 개설된 한국 경제 관련 강좌는 국가는 물론 대학 간 강좌에서도 다양한 양상으로 나타난다. 러시아의 경우, 한국어 능력 향상이 목적인 어학 강좌에서 한국의 경제발전, 국가 간 경제협력, 전문 경제 용 어 및 무역과 금융 등 경제활동에 이르기까지 한국 경제와 국제관계 전반을 포괄하기도 하고, 한국 경제에 대한 이론보다 실무차원에 초점을 둔 강좌도 있다. 이에 반해 중앙아시아는 학과명과 강좌명에 ‘한국’, ‘경제’ 용어가 포함되어 있으나 구체적인 내용을 확인하기 어려운 경우도 있다. 주목할 점은 대학에서 한국 또는 동 양(극동)을 다루는 강좌나 프로그램에서 한국 경제는 주된 관심 분야 중 하나이며 그 중요성을 인정받은 대 상이라는 점을 확인할 수 있다.
