This study was inspired by a personal curiosity about how two countries, the Philippines and Mexico, situated on opposite sides of the globe, exhibit similar attitudes despite their geographical distance. The study aims to uncover the background behind why these two countries share similar characteristics and cultures. It began after a chance conversation revealed the shared tendencies of people from both nations. Upon returning home, the researcher embarked on this study, though it was not initially designed with a systematic research framework. The researcher conducted natural, unstructured interviews with Filipinos and Mexicans while living in the Philippines, Canada, and the United States, drawing on firsthand notes as primary data to verify the cultural similarities between the two countries. The findings of this study reveal that both the Philippines and Mexico were influenced by Spanish colonial rule, during which Roman Catholicism was introduced. This religious orientation significantly shaped their worldview and values, resulting in a culture with short-term orientation. Although this study may not have a significant impact on society or make substantial academic contributions, it aims to broaden general knowledge and understanding. The researcher acknowledges the study's academic limitations but hopes it contributes to a wider appreciation of cultural commonalities.

본 연구는 지구 반대편에 위치한 필리핀과 멕시코 두 나라가 유사한 상황에서 같은 태도를 취한다는 점에서 착안한 연구로 두 나라가 비슷한 성향과 비슷한 문화를 가지게 된 배경이 무엇인지 그 배경을 밝히려는 매우 개인적인 호기심에서 출발한 연구이다. 본 연구는 우연한 대화를 통해 양국의 국민들이 비슷한 성향을 갖고 있다는 사실을 알게 되어 귀국 후 시작한 연구로, 연구 초기부터 체계적인 연구 설계를 가지고 진행한 연구는 아니었다. 연구자는 필 리핀과 캐나다, 미국에서 생활하면서 필리핀 사람들과 멕시코 사람들을 직접 만나 자연스럽게 비구조 화된 질문으로 인터뷰 조사를 진행했고, 당시 메모해 뒀던 1차 자료들을 근거로 양국의 유사한 문화를 검증한 실질적인 사례 연구이다. 연구결과 알게 된 사실은 필리핀과 멕시코 양국은 스페인의 지배를 받으며 그들이 전한 로마 가톨릭 의 종교적 성향이 그들의 인생관과 가치관에 영향을 미쳐 단기지향적인 성향의 문화가 형성되었다는 것이다. 이 연구가 사회에 큰 영향을 미치고, 기여하는 연구라고 말하기는 어렵지만, 이 연구를 통해 일 반교양 상식을 넓히는데 기여하는 한 연구가 되기를 기대하는 바이며, 학술적인 한계가 있음을 밝힌다.
