According to the analysis of the research results of foreign researchers, it was confirmed that ESG management activities had a direct and indirect effect on the financial performance of a company. ESG occupies the most important sector of a company's valuation factors. In particular, in the process of transitioning from shareholder capitalism to stakeholder capitalism, corporate social responsibility (CSR) became an essential for sustainable development, not an option. Research on ESG has increased rapidly through the COVID-19 pandemic, and research results also speak about the positive effects of ESG management in various areas and aspects. This paper examins ESG and management performance, especially focusing on recently published papers among overseas research. Most studies have confirmed a positive relationship between the two. In addition to simple financial performance, ESG was analyzed to have a significant effect in various aspects such as the relationship between ESG practices and debt costs, the relationship between corporate risk taking, the effect of suppressing misconduct by managers, the relationship with corporate default risk, the relationship with the bond credit spread, the relationship with trade credit finance, and the moderating effect of corporate controversy and ESG practices. While the existing ESG research trend analysis studies were external analysis using text mining or keyword network analysis, this study is meaningful in that the trend was analyzed based on the content. However, I think a separate study is needed for the overall trend of the research method and domestic research trend.

국외 연구자들의 연구 결과를 분석한 바에 의하면 ESG 경영활동은 기업의 성과에 직접적 뿐만 아니라 간접적 영향을 미치고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. ESG는 기업의 가치평가 요소의 가장 중 요한 부문을 차지하고 있다. 특히 주주자본주의에서 이해관계자 자본주의로의 전환과정에서 기업의 사 회적 책임(CSR)은 선택이 아닌 지속가능 발전을 위한 필수가 되었다. ESG에 대한 연구는 코로나 19팬 데믹을 거치면서 급증하였고, 연구 성과 또한 다양한 영역과 측면에서 ESG 경영의 긍정적효과에 대해 말해 주고있다. 본 논문에서는 특히 해외 연구 중 최근 발표된 논문을 중심으로 ESG와 경영성과에 대 해 살펴보았다. 대부분의 연구는 양자의 관계에 대해 긍정적 관련성을 확인하였다. 단순한 재무적 성과 와의 관련 뿐만 아니라 ESG관행과 부채비용과의 관계, 기업의 위험 감수와의 관계, 경영자의 위법행위 억제 효과, 기업의 디폴트 리스크와의 관계, 채권 신용 스프레드와의 관계, 무역신용금융과의 관계, 기 업논란과 ESG관행의 조절 효과 등 다양한 측면에서 ESG는 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었 다. 기존의 ESG 연구동향 분석 연구들이 텍스트 마이닝 또는 키워드 네트워크 분석을 활용하여 외관적 인 분석이었던 반면에 본 연구는 내용중심으로 그 동향을 분석했다는 점에 의미가 있다. 다만, 연구방 법의 전반적인 동향 및 국내연구동향에 대해서는 심도 있는 별도의 연구가 필요하다고 생각한다.
