This paper discusses the poetic realization of the spirit of Namdo [南道] in the early poetry of Song Su-kwon. Song conceptualized the essence of the spirit of Namdo as the ‘Namdo style [南道風]’. This spirit is embodied as a song rooted in the fundamental language of the Namdo people, reflecting their lived experiences. Song’s poetry reveals the mental and emotional history of Namdo. The pain and wounds run deep beneath the embodied history. Song Su-kwon defined that the song that embodies the enlarged pain and sadness as the poetics of Han [恨]. Like the festivals and rituals of Namdo, the sentiment of Han contains a transformative power—a capacity to leap toward other dimensions. The process of re-exploring the meaning of love through song became a consistent theme in Song Su-kwon’s poetry. Poetry embodies the universal history of the people as represented in the spirit of Namdo. The process of expanding time and space leaning on the Pa-sang-ryok (破像力) of the song is realized as the poetry of the ‘Dure [두레]’ community. Song’s poetry reflects a deep-seated desire to restore the profound connections that have been erased from human communities. This aspiration for restoration served as the driving force behind his work.

본고는 송수권 초기시에서 ‘남도 정신’이 시적으로 구현되는 양상을 논구했다. 송수권 은 남도 정신의 실체를 ‘남도풍’으로 개념화했다. 남도 정신은 남도인의 삶에 뿌리내린 기층 언어로 부르는 노래로 구현된다. 기층 언어 속에는 공동체의 체험이 녹아 있다. 기층 언어로 채록한 시 속에서 남도의 심성사를 읽을 수 있다. 그렇게 구현된 역사의 이면에는 고통과 상처가 깊다. 송수권은 비대해진 고통과 슬픔을 현재화한 노래가 바로 한의 시학이라고 규정했다. 남도의 축제와 제의가 그러하듯, 한의 정서 속에는 다른 차원 을 향해 질적으로 도약하는 힘이 있다. 한의 정서는 노래를 추동한다. 노래를 통해 열리 는 사랑의 의미를 재탐색하는 과정은 송수권 시의 일관된 주제였다. 시는 남도 정신으로 구현된 민중의 보편사와 같은 의미로 형상화된다. 남도의 시공간이 노래의 파상력(破像 力)에 기대어 전역적으로 확장되는 과정은 두레 공동체의 시학으로 구현된다. 인간 공동 체 속에서 지워져 가는 심층적인 관계를 복원하려는 의지와 희망의 논리가 바로 송수권 시학의 원동력이었다. 그 중핵에 남도 정신이 자리한다.
