As a leading figure in Eastern abstract expressionist painting, Zao Wou-Ki (1921-2013) fused Eastern and Western cultures to create his own unique art style. This study aims to analyze and investigate the influence of Zao Wu-Ki, who played a pioneering role in Chinese modern painting. In the course of his creation, Zao Wu-Ki 's painting style has changed and developed significantly from traditional painting style. In the factors and background of the change of his works, we can find the causes of the formation of the painting style, the biggest factor is the mutual influence of Chinese and Western culture and thought. Although his early works adopted the traditional painting style, he later adopted French modernism and formed Zhao Muji 's original work style. His abstract painting combines the movement of lines and the beauty of form belonging to the symbolic language, the revolutionary image and the beauty of meaning, and the aesthetic elements of Oriental art. During his study abroad in France, Zao Wu-Ki 's painting style was influenced by Western modern art, and initially changed from traditional Chinese painting style to concrete symbolism, then from symbolism to wild grass, and finally formed his own original form of abstract expressionism. To summarize the influence of Zao Wu-Ki 's paintings on Chinese modern painting, first, the painting style of the fusion of Chinese and Western cultures became popular in China in the 20th century; second, the 85th Century art movement, which is called China' s avant-garde art, was developed in 1980 through the "85 Lecture" of depoliticalisation by Zao Wu-Ki during that period; and third, it provided a form that can be used as a reference for the creation of Chinese modern art. As above, this study summarizes the influence of Zao Wu-Ki's art on the art world, and examines the influence of his artistic achievements on the development of modern Chinese painting.

동양 추상표현주의 회화의 대표적인 인물로 평가되는 조무극(趙無極, 1921-2013)은 중․서양 문화를 융합하여 자신만의 새로운 예술 양식을 창조하였다. 본 연구는 중국 현대회화의 선구적 역할을 한 조무극이 중국 현대회화에 미친 영향을 분석하고 고찰한 것이다. 조무극의 회화 양식은 창작 과정에서 전통 회화 양식 에서 벗어나 획기적인 변화와 발전이 있었다. 그의 작품 변천의 요인과 배경에는 회화 양식 형성의 원인을 발견할 수 있는데, 가장 큰 요인은 중서 문화 및 사상의 상호 영향 이다. 초기 작품은 전통 회화 양식을 적용하였으나, 이후 프랑스 모더니즘을 수용하면 서 조무극만의 독창적인 작품 양식을 형성하게 된 것이다. 바로 그의 추상회화 작품에 는 기호 언어에 속하는 선의 움직임과 형식미, 파격적 화면과 의경미(意境美), 그리고 동양예술의 미학적인 요소를 융합하여 표현하고 있다. 조무극의 회화 양식은 프랑스 유학 기간에 서양 현대미술의 영향을 받으면서, 초기에는 중국 전통 회화 양식에서 구체적 기호화로 변화하게 되었고, 이후 기호화에 서 광초(狂草)로, 마침내 그만의 독창적인 추상표현주의 양식을 형성한 것이다. 조무극의 회화가 중국 현대회화에 미친 영향을 정리하면, 첫째, 중국 20세기에 중국과 서양 문화를 융합한 회화 양식이 유행하게 되었고, 둘째, 조무극이 해당 기간에 진행한 탈정치화의 ‘85강연’을 통해 1980년대 중국의 아방가르드 미술로 일컫는 85신 조미술운동이 전개되었으며, 셋째, 중국 현대 예술 창작에 참고가 되는 양식을 제공한 것이다. 이상과 같이 본 연구는 조무극의 예술이 미술계에 미친 영향을 요약하고, 그의 예술적 성취가 중국 현대회화 발전에 미친 영향을 고찰하였다.
