“There is a way in the book,” “People make books, books make people.” Ironically, however, local bookstores that actually sell books are endangered. The crisis in local bookstores is not limited to specific regions or specific bookstores. With the decline of the local population and the development of Internet technology, readers can purchase books without going to bookstores. The necessary information can be obtained without books. With this situation, the crisis in local bookstores is accelerating. Local bookstores operate in the same way as in the past. Most local bookstores still only sell books. This study emphasized that even if local bookstores cannot do anything about the situation of the times, the way local bookstores operate must be changed. This study presented three operational plans for local bookstores. Local bookstores should be transformed into complex cultural spaces, educational and creative spaces, and human network spaces. This study suggested that they use local bookstores more when they are more interested, more aware, and more intimate. This study looked at the intention to visit, focusing on familiarity. However, in addition to familiarity, there will be variables that increase the intention to visit. Future research will need to be discussed from multiple angles. It is hoped that local bookstores will restore the base of local culture.

“책 속에 길 있다.”, “사람은 책을 만들고, 책은 사람을 만든다.” 그러나 아이러니하게도 정작 책을 판매하는 지역서점은 소멸 위기에 놓여 있다. 지역서점의 위기는 일 부의 특정 지역이나 특정 서점에만 국한된 문제가 아니다. 지역 인구의 감소와 더불어 인터넷 기술의 발전으로 독자는 서점에 가지 않아도 책을 구매할 수 있다. 필요한 정 보를 책이 아니더라도 습득할 수 있는 상황으로 지역서점은 위기는 가속화되고 있다. 이런 상황에서도 지역서점은 운영 방식은 과거와 다를 바가 없다. 책만 판매하는 지역 서점이 대부분이다. 본 연구는 시대적 상황에 대해서 지역서점이 어떻게 할 수 없어도 지역서점의 운영 방식은 바꿔야 함을 강조하였다. 본 연구는 지역서점의 운영 방식에 대해서 3가지 방안을 제시하였다. 지역서점은 복합문화공간, 교육·창작공간, 인적 네트워크공간으로 변화해야 한다. 각 방안을 통해 지역 주민이 지역서점에 대해서 더 많은 관심을 갖게 하고, 더 많이 알게 하고, 더 친밀하게 해야 한다. 지역서점에 대한 친숙도를 높여야 한다. 지역서점에 대한 친숙도는 방문의도를 더 높인다. 본 연구는 지역서점에 대한 친숙도를 높여야 방문의도를 높일 수 있고, 친숙도를 높이는 방안에 대해서 살펴보았다. 그러나 친숙도 이외에도 방문의도를 높이는 방안이 있을 것이다. 향후 연구에서 이를 다각적인 각도로 논의하기를 기대한다. 지역서점이 지역문화의 거점을 회복할 수 있기를 기대한다.
