Creativity is a critical competency in modern education, essential for fostering problemsolving skills and innovative thinking. This study aimed to analyze the effects of wordless picture books on the development of creativity in young children. The study used 『LA DANCE DES MAINS』 by Hervé Tullet, which was restructured into a wordless picture book by removing its text. The study was conducted with 12 children aged 5 to 7 at a preschool in Seoul. The experimental group was provided with the wordless picture book to engage in creative activities using visual elements, while the control group used a picture book with text to focus on constructing narratives based on both text and images. The results revealed that the wordless picture book positively influenced the children’s ability to generate unique ideas and construct extended stories by utilizing visual stimuli such as hand movements and rhythmic color patterns. In contrast, the picture book with text was beneficial for structured storytelling and comprehension but provided relatively fewer opportunities for free interpretation and creative expression. This study demonstrates the potential of wordless picture books as effective tools for fostering creativity in young children and suggests their applicability in early childhood education settings.

창의성은 현대 교육에서 문제 해결 능력과 혁신적 사고를 촉진하는 중요한 핵심 역량이다. 본 연구는 글 없는 그림책이 유아의 창의성 발달에 미치는 영향을 분 석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 연구는 Hervé Tullet의 『LA DANCE DES MAINS』을 텍스트를 제거한 글 없 는 그림책으로 재구성하여, 서울 소재 어린이집에 재원 중인 5~7세 유아 12명을 대상으로 진행되었다. 실험집 단에는 글 없는 그림책을 제공하여 시각적 요소를 활용 한 창의적 활동을 유도했으며, 비교집단에는 텍스트가 포함된 그림책을 제공하여 서사를 중심으로 한 활동을 진행했다. 연구 결과, 글 없는 그림책은 손의 움직임과 색채 리듬 같은 시각적 자극을 통해 유아가 독창적인 아이디 어를 창출하고 확장된 스토리를 구성하는 데 긍정적인 영향을 미친 것으로 나타났다. 반면, 텍스트가 포함된 그림책은 서사를 구조화하고 이해하는데 유익했으나 자유로운 해석과 창의적 표현의 기회는 상대적으로 제 한적이었다. 본 연구는 글 없는 그림책이 유아 창의성 발달을 촉진할 수 있는 효과적인 도구임을 보여주며, 이를 바탕으로 유아 교육 현장에서의 활용 가능성을 제안한다.
